Basically. The Charter, and all of the magic and Charter Marks it contains, seems to be omnipresent within the Old Kingdom, so Lirael would have essentially reached into another dimension. Note: This is pure speculation, Garth Nix left the nature of the Charter vauge. 12.17.189.77 02:55, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- Are you referring to "reaching into" the Charter? It's best to think of the Charter as the magical underpinnings of the world - it's what allows magic to be constrained by symbols (safely) and a proper cycle of Life and Death to exist. Reaching into the Charter is like embracing the True Source in Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time". That's my impression, anyway. Sir Ophiuchus 20:42, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- If the Charter is the magical underpinnings of the world, How come it only exists in the Old Kingdom and Northern Ancelstierre?--Orannis the Destroyer
- I agree with Orannis, and why did free magic exist before Charter magic66.183.36.225 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 02:01, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Creature in Library
Lirael fought a creature with scythes for hands. What was the name of it? Could someone with the book add a bit of info into the article about it? Zeek Aran 22:34, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Stilken... but I'm not sure it's really important to the novel. Nihiltres(t.l) 22:47, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe not to the plot of the novel, but shouldn't we have the most information possible? Zeek Aran 03:08, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Usually, yes, but not necessarily always. :) Nihiltres(t.l) 03:53, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- I personally think the stilken should be added, it's quite a leap for Lireal to kill the stilken and she spent a long time trying to find out what it was, it is rather a large part of the book, it deserves a mentoin at the very least - Derob ecnirp (talk) 18:46, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- She didn't really kill the stilken she just bound it--Orannis the Ninth Bright Shiner (talk) 04:10, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

it should be mentioned because it mentions the statuette so why not the stilken? they were both found in the same place —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.183.36.225 (talk) 02:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Plot Introduction
Shouldn't there be more ot the Plot introduction than just "The book is split into three parts, the first of which is set 14 years after the events in Sabriel, the last two parts are set 19 years after. Sabriel and Touchstone have since married and assumed a measure of control over the Old Kingdom. Their offspring Ellimere and Sameth are currently being raised in Ancelstierre (similarly to Sabriel) before being expected to take up their duties in the Old Kingdom"? --Orannis the Destroyer 05:22, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
