Australian Aboriginal flag is the current ACOTF
Hi. You voted for Australian Aboriginal flag to be selected as Australian Collaboration of the fortnight. It has now been selected. Please improve it in any way you see fit. Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 13:57, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
White's tree frog
Hi, I've had a go at editing the article. I thought a few points could be clarified, you should be able to see my queries in this diff. I think you should also ask someone else to copyedit the article, User:Wayward is a great copyeditor. --nixie 10:14, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- I have fixed two of the points you raised, but cannot do the natural lifespan. I don't think anyone has researched it, and it would be very hard to research as you cannot collar them (as is normally done in these studies), and chipping them would mean you would have to find them again (not easy when they are in the wild). Thanks for your edits. --liquidGhoul 02:58, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
My intentions with the "Conservation status" edit was to remove this statement: "there is still concern". That statement is someone's opinion so it should be referenced. I re-worded it with the factors laid out so that the reader can come to this opinion without the writer telling them it is so. Please consider this for a future revision. Good luck with the FAC, the article has come a long way in a short time. It certainly is worthy of feature article consideration. --maclean25 07:22, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
Unblocked
Hi, I've unblocked the IP you asked me to unblock. The IP was blocked for repeated vandalism and edits of a malicious personal nature. I realise these edits may have been made by somebody other than yourself, but this person seems prone to disruptive behaviour, and will probably be blocked again - if not by me, by some other administrator. I recommend that you continue editing under your registered name, and not as an anonymos IP, so that your useful edits can be judged separately from whatever vandalism is done out of your IP. As for my email address, for personal reasons I would rather it not be linked to wikipedia. I apologize for this. But you can email any other sysop and ask them to unblock you: direct their attention to this comment on your talk page. --Woggly 09:43, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, blocking the IP will block you from editing from that IP even if you are a registered user. I'm just saying you should always edit as a register user, so as to build up your identity and reputation: that way admins will be more likely to unblock you if you have been blocked as the side-effect of an IP block. --Woggly 11:37, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
grammar
'have led to it becoming' is ungrammatical. You've reverted what was a much better sentence. Why? Tony 12:52, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
If I allowed 'due to' in an editing job, my colleagues would change it to 'because'. If you don't like that word at the start of a paragraph, why not reverse the order of the clauses. I have no problem starting with 'Because' in this register. Tony 14:45, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- IMO, nothing wrong with "due to," but "it becoming" should be "its becoming," as the gerund takes the possessive. (Business writing doesn't like "due," but this is a high social register, and it is international, so "due" should be as welcome as the subjunctive.) Geogre 22:19, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Superb Fairy-wren
I've voted in support of your Fairy-wren image--it's fantastic! I was just wondering what edits, specifically, you made to the image before uploading it. Did you crop it at all? If it was anything significant, I think it'd be great to upload the original to the Commons. Thanks! ~MDD4696 (talk • contribs) 01:41, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

My edits of frog and your Frog_adaptations
I didn't realise that some of my recent edits of Frog are very similar to your frog adaptation work in progress. Please have a look - some of it may be useful for your article. - Samsara 15:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Maintenance of AID
Hi there,
I see you have been updating votes on AID nominations. Maybe you will be interested in my proposal to coordinate such maintenance work on AID: Wikipedia:Article_Improvement_Drive/Maintenance. --Dijxtra 12:31, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
User:LiquidGhoul/Frog_adaptations
I really like your work on that page. The main article now probably has space for that material, after removing the "frogs in pop culture" bits. If you want to merge it in, we should probably try and do it before the big AID onslaught, what do you think? I'll do it, actually, if you give me permission. - Samsara contrib talk 23:53, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
User:LiquidGhoul/Frog_gallery_experimenting
In addition to my edit of the above page, you could probably tweak the sizes of the different elements to close the gap that now exists. I think that's done by specifying a size, like 190px to 250px, instead of "thumb". Best wishes, Samsara contrib talk 23:58, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- I've just tried again, using a tag found on the featured image candidates page. You'll see that it stops the conflict between horizontal and vertical galleries. Best, Samsara contrib talk 22:32, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Described vs. Known?
Could you explain to me the difference between a 'described' species and a 'known' species? I don't doubt that there's a difference, but it seems a strange term to use ... Phil Bordelon 04:41, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

The frog in the pool
F.Y.I. The frog was removed from the pool right as it was being quickly photographed. It or one of the same species has repeatedly jumped into my suburban swimming pool and we have had to atttempt to remove it as it swam through the chlorinated water. I will admit it is not in line with the rest of the pictures on the article and I am going to of course also de-list it from the featured picture candidates page. I added the picture not so much to show the frog, but I thought it would help illustrate the effects urban sprawl has had on frogs. I am offended to be accused of animal cruelty. I have saved dozens of baby turtles that also have "suddenly appeared" in our pool over the years so that they might have a chance to live. I did not "sit around and take pictures of it." One person removed it right as I took a photo of it. Urban sprawl has had serious affects on frogs and I hope you can find a better picture to add to illustrate this very important issue. I am a strong supporter of the ASPCA. The color is actually quite accurate though. Have a nice day, and good luck with this article. ¡Dustimagic! (T/C) 04:22, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

- "I agree with you, in that I don't particularly like these gigantic images."
- At least we agree on that point then. Perhaps the shell could get a little more detail in a higher resolution. African Clawed Frog Photo
I've gotten unblocked again a bit quicker this time. Xenopus laevis isn't a partiularly colourful frog and the hues of the photo are distracting in the original photo. The black and white works much better to illustrate the frog. I've a similar photo at Image:African Clawed Frog.JPG in colour, and both frogs have the same colouration. - i want to write about it, u know. "Romer's Tree Frog (Philautus romeri) is the smallest amphibian among the frog and toad species recorded in Hong Kong. Its average body length is from 1.5 cm to 2 cm..." just want to know if there is any known species smaller than it in the world (it already seems to me very small, but then i don't know much about frog). --K.C. Image Tagging Image:Cliviaminiata.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Cliviaminiata.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 10:35, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Caravans in rainforests and Rheobatrachus
The same thought occurred to me. There are plenty of examples of missing species being rediscovered. I'm mostly surprised that nobody had an interest or succeeded in breeding them in captivity. - Samsara (talk • contribs) 12:28, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- If you think about it another way, it's not really that surprising: a species that is difficult to find in the first case might be expected to be close to extinction... Samsara (talk • contribs) 14:16, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Congrats
Yes, well done! :) - Samsara (talk • contribs) 11:07, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Sorry about the capitalization thing
I was just reading the policy when your message arrived. I'd have to say that I think Wikipedia is falling a bit outside of the mainstream with that choice, but if that is what has been settled then I'll abide by it.
Frog pics for LiquidGhoul
I just uploaded a Rhinophrynid pic for your families table. The picture isn't the best, but there's only one species in the family, and they only come out of the ground for a couple days a year. I was happy to just see this thing. They're wierd fat little frogs, though.
I do have pictures of Ascaphus (tailed frogs in the family Ascaphidae), but they're poor quality, and they're slides that I'd have to dig up and scan. I can do this, but not soon. I'm in the forest next week and I'll try to grab a couple photos of come glass frogs (Centrolenids).
As for other help, I know that there's Brachycephalid pics on the Brachycephalidae page.
By the way, here's a "Potentially Aposematic Tadpole Award" for the good work on Frog.
Romer
Man, i'm thinking of shooting the tiny creature all the day! i can't promise, though... not really an easy job... and there seems to be no public display... i'll try, anyway... btw, how many frogs do u keep? --K.C. Tang 22:22, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- Good luck with your new creatures too! That sounds a truly meaningful undertaking. but i heard that taking care of frog takes much time, isn't it? (and u r still studying, right?) :) --K.C. Tang 04:27, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- the creature seems to have another name besides Philautus romeri (see here), i'm confused, could u help me figure it out? thanks a lot. :) --K.C. Tang 00:05, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

- i use that site too, the site is really great, man. All the taxons are there! indeed i've added a footnote about the classification in the article, but i'm not sure one should use the old or the new name in the taxbox, what is the common practice?--K.C. Tang 13:37, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Tuatara anti-vandal
Thanks for taking care of tuatara while I wasn't looking. Seems like Pstevendactylus is also interested in that article. Maybe we can tackle this as a team. I should check the National Library for copies of the book references - my uni library doesn't have them... - Samsara (talk • contribs) 00:52, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking, though! Yes, I guess I'll start with the general references. Web of Science has not yielded the answers I was looking for, at least so far. - Samsara (talk • contribs) 02:36, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Cuban Tree Frog
Thanks for the note. I should have done a bit more checking before that move. Capitalizing a common name like that looks odd to me, but it does seem to be in line with WP convention, in the case of species common names. In any event I've put it back. NTK 04:16, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Featured and protected?
Following on from your comment about the vandalism that occurred to White's Tree Frog when it was featured on the main page, I was wondering whether it would be beneficial to semi-protect or even protect articles on the main page. What do you think? - Samsara (talk • contribs) 11:46, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I've just read much of the discussion, including the cited diffs, and all I can say is that I can't take a day off work for this. Perhaps the solution is to permanently display articles in diff mode, like it's done in word processor version control. So you would be simultaneously seeing the version of the very early morning of the FA day, and the current version. - Samsara (talk • contribs) 12:50, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
There's a link on my talk page (or a recent archive) that explains why FAs are not to be protected. I disagree, but I'm not going to argue it. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:54, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
