Lipstick Conspiracy are a transgender rock band from San Francisco, California.
The band was formed in February 2003 in San Francisco by Sarafina Maraschino (vocals and guitar) and Tori Tait (vocals and keyboards). They then recruited Shawna Love (vocals, guitar and bass) and Marilyn Mitchell (vocals, guitar and bass). Their first performance was in May 2003 for a benefit for the San Francisco Sex Workers Film Festival.
Over the next few years, they were a staple of the local San Francisco music scene, playing nearly 50 shows over two years - including San Francisco Pride in 2004 and 2005, and Decompression in 2003 and 2004.
Their debut release in 2004 was a five song EP titled Don't Tell a Soul recorded at Potrero Post Studios in San Francisco. This received steady airplay on national mainstream and college radio stations, various Internet radio programs, and international stations from Canada and Mexico, to Belgium, Italy and Serbia.
During 2004 they were cited in the San Francisco Bay Guardian's 'Best of the Bay' issue as "Best Girl Band 2004". More recently, they have been christened "The Fabulous 5" by the East Bay Express, were the featured artist on PlanetOut, and earned a Stonewall Award.
They released their second full-length CD, titled A Perfect Alibi, recorded at Different Fur and Potrero Post Studios in San Francisco, on June 1, 2006.
Emme Yarwood (drums) joined just prior to San Francisco Pride 2004 and was with the band for just over a year, but she then decided to leave to pursue other interests. At that point the band used a variety of stand-in drummers until in July 2006 Natalie Yeh joined.
