[edit] Image uploading

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I notice that you've been uploading at lot of images lately. I just wanted to warn you that images are subject to deletion if not properly tagged, perhaps you noticed the warning at Special: Upload. See Wikipedia:Image use policy for more information and Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for a list of licensing tags you can use. Also, you can look at Image:THE LEGEND OF ZELDA ~Takt of Wind~.jpg for an example: I've added the licensing tag {{gamecover}} in this case, and also added fair use rationale, as I'm currently trying to help The Wind Waker reach featured status. An easy way to add the licensing information is to select the appropriate choice from the drop-down list when uploading. I hope this helps, and look forward to you helping out on more articles! --Pagrashtak 16:23, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dragon Ball movies

I am reverting your unilateral moves for two reasons. First, we should keep the English-language names of movies, not roughly-translated Japanese. We could find five Japanese speakers that might have subtly different translations of titles, so we stay with the English-language "official" titles so as to not deal with that mess. Second, you must not move articles by creating new and changing the old to redirects, because that removes the edit history. (And third, I see that you have remoived the WikiProject Films box on some of the movies, which is also inaccurate, but I won't restore those now. These are theatrically released films and so are of interest to that project. The FilmBox templaye which you are using is a standard of that project.) JRP 14:30, 15 February 2006 (UTC) -- Even though there are the Bridge Entertainment titles, I think you will agree that the FUNimation English titles are the ones that everyone knows. Also, your titles are *less* universal because of the translation difficulties. Is it "Dragon Fist Attack"? "Dragon Fist Assault"? "Dragon Fist Explosion"? None of them are more right than any other. So, through application of the Google test, we should keep the FUNimation dub titles as the canonical ones for articles and REDIRECT all of the other titles to those. Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:DBZ THE MOVIE NO. 5.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Digimon Adventure

Please do not remove english names from en-anime articles. review WP:Anime for more guidelines for anime articles. Typically speaking, english version name goes first and Japanese name goes second. Also, please start a discussion or see WP:DIGI before making major changes to a major digimon article. Thanks. -- Ned Scott 05:32, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

If you do not stop removing content and stop adding nonsense it will be considered vandalism and you may be blocked from editing. -- Ned Scott 06:23, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 14% for major edits and 96% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 26 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 06:00, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding InuYasha names

"(moved Sesshomaru to Sesshōmaru: Official spelling)"

No, its not. "Sesshomaru" is the way VIZ Media spells it. This is an English-language encyclopedia, so we follow translated version conventions. Your naming changes have been reverted. Its okay to romanize "Hanyo", "Yokai", etc since there are no official romanizations for those terms. WhisperToMe 03:12, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

By the way, never macronize Tokyo. Tokyo is an English-language word. WhisperToMe 03:31, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

"== Inuyasha ==

+ I own the first volume of Viz's graphic novel for Inuyasha & that is how the names are spelt.

"

You have an old edition. The new editions (you can find them in US bookstores) don't use macrons. WhisperToMe 03:56, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

But they did use them. They aren't very consistent with their spellings, they use Inu-Yasha in the manga, InuYasha in their logo, and Inuyasha in the anime and art book. So why can't we use "Shippō" insead of "Shippo", it's still the same as "Shippo" so people who watch the dub will knoow who it is and people who spell it "Shippou" will still know when a vowel is long.

Well, here's how I do it. Official Spelling (Japanese, Standard spelling) E.G. Taro Furuta (Japanese, Furuta Tarō)

Well, Shippō isn't used as the production goes on. Now, they do use differing versions of Inuyasha between the manga and anime, but just about everything else should be more or less the same.

WhisperToMe 04:52, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] When correcting names in DBZ articles...

Please be sure to do another direct to whatever's listed in the encyclopedia if they're links. Sometimes I stumble across links that are broken after you've finished revamping a page, mostly because the name doesn't show in Wiki's file of record.

ex. - Mafuba -> Mafūba -> Mafūba

Though looking now, while Mafuba still works it doesn't link properly anymore after the change. I'll have to look into that.

Thanks.Papacha 20:09, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Laputa

Hi there, i was wondering what your reason for capitalizing Laputa was in all the links/references. Is there an official source for this idea? thanks :) (reply here) --Quiddity 06:46, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

The Japanese DVD has English subtitles on it and the title of the movie is written "LAPUTA: Castle in the Sky".Linkdude20002001 06:53, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Not to be rude, but usually anime that have a different title in their English versions usually have the article name match the official English title, not a direct translation of the Japanese Title i.e Spirited Away not "Sen and the Spiriting Away of Chihiro", "Dead Zone (Dragon Ball Z film)" instead of "Return My Gohan!!" and no "Laputa" is neccasary in Castle in the Sky's title. Also The capitalized letters were probably meant to create emphasis, "Laputa" does not need to be all caps. An easy mistake to make. Finite 21:58, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

But if it's on Disney's DVDs than that would make it the official English title. On the Japanese DVDs for "Sen and the Spiriting Away of Chihiro" the movie is called "Spirited Away" in the English subtitles. So it's not just that "LAPUTA: Castle in the Sky" is a translation of the Japanese title, it's the official English title. It's the same with other Studio Ghibli films, "Omohide Poro Poro" means "Memories Overflowing Like Tear Drops" or literally "Memories Drop Drop" but the official English title on the Japanese DVDs call it "Only Yesterday".

Most anime wikis use the Japanese names that are on the DVDs subtitles when the dub changes them, Dragon Ball for example. In Inuyasha, even though the dub, the manga, & the subtitles on the DVDs all use "Tetsusaiga" the Inuyasha page uses the correct "Tessaiga". And about the Dragon Ball movies, there are two english dubs of the movies each using different titles. I changed the page names to a translation of the Japanese title because people who live in the UK would not know FUNimation's titles and this is an English language wikipedia not a United States Wikipedia.Linkdude20002001 23:33, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Alrighty, after a bit of research I found out a few things, you were right, "Laputa" is indeed in the english title, but the word is excised from Region 1 packaging because of its offensive meaning in Spanish. Region 2 and 4 releases include it so I guess it would be completely appropiate for you to move the page to "Laputa: Castle in the Sky". Finite 21:19, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Agreed. And i would suggest that the all-caps is merely a typographical device, not an official method of naming the film. I would agree that the page could/should be moved to "Laputa: Castle in the Sky". --Quiddity 21:57, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Inuyasha Manga.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Inuyasha Manga.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:DB_THE_MOVIE_NO._2.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:DB_THE_MOVIE_NO._2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 11:08, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
