Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you want to get involved, but I'm afraid there's a problem with the article you created, Silicon Valley Roller Girls. It did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Don't feel too badly; lots of people have a little trouble when creating their first article. You might find it useful to read Your First Article for some good advice about starting to create articles on Wikipedia. Two important rules of thumb are: Avoid writing about yourself, your business, your family and friends, or your web page, and avoid writing about anything that hasn't been written about in reliable sources like books, newspapers, and magazines. Anyway, don't be discouraged. I've deleted the article you created, and feel free to ask me if you have any more questions. -FisherQueen (talk ยท contribs) 22:57, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

The article Silicon Valley Roller Girls has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. • There are a couple of problems. First, you need to supply reliable independent sources showing that this group is notable per WP:ORG. I don't think a single mention in the sports page of a local paper satisfies WP:V. Second, you can't use this encyclopedia as a webhost to advertise the group. Content like "SVRG is currently recruiting women over 18 years of age to become league members, and has many opportunities for all members of our community to become involved with our league. We are looking to expand our support staff including male and female referees, statisticians, scorekeepers, announcers, DJs, EMTs, and security personnel." belongs on your own website, not in an encyclopedia. See WP:SPAM and WP:NPOV.

I'm going to place a proposed delete tag on the article, rather than speedily deleting it again, to give you time to edit out the ad copy and to find sources. NawlinWiki (talk) 23:30, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
