I'm just finishing the translation now. Can you restore the link for me on the Spanish article? Si quieres escribirme en español, esta bien. Puedo leerlo sin problema. ¡Gracias! | Klaw ¡digame! 22:04, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Vanellus chilensis

Hi, you misread what I had put I said "other than in jungles and mountains", ie, in the open lowland habitats you describe. I'll go back and clarify. jimfbleak 07:38, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hola, soy Randroide

Basta.

[edit] Dalcahue

Hello Linlinao, I've noticed from your user page that you live in Dalcahue. It would be really great if you could add some material to the article about your place of residence, since there's practically nothing in the article. --JAXHERE | Talk 16:06, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Norteamericano

I know about the use of "norteamericano"; the sentence was trying to say it is often used specifically to refer to the US (and Canada) in some contexts. In this context it separates "Anglo America" from "Latin America". In other contexts, it is used to refer to all of the (sub)continent of America del Norte, which also includes Mexico and usually Central America and the Caribbean. This use is the same as the English word "North American". I suppose the sentence could be made clearer.--Cúchullain t/c 21:05, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

--Supaman89

[edit] Re:Mapuche

I find it very hard to believe Mapuches have any connection with Sparta, even if there is an actual legend. The cited link focuses on mithology, and gives no support whatsoever to the theory. Perhaps it could be re-inserted in the text with another format? --Mariano(t/c) 21:11, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chilean Spanish

I trimmed down that section a bit, because I landed on the article by chance. I think it would be really good if you could clean it up, merge sections that saz the same, and leave only the most suitable examples that would give an idea of the grammar and vocabulary. Maintaining the article is tedious, I know, but reverting non-sense and non-encyclopedic edits from anon users is not such a huge task. --Mariano(t/c) 17:14, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi. The references I made to the Spanish of Spain were merely meant to show that those words are not Chilean-specific regionalisms. I left untouched those entries that to me as a Castilian speaker sound odd or unfamiliar, but they might as well be used in other Latin American countries and thus not be truly Chilean-specific words. I'm not overly familiar with Chilean Spanish, so I cannot contribute to improve that list other than having sorted out those terms that I know for sure are not Chilean-specific because they are also commonly used over here. Anyway, I think published dictionaries or compilations of Chilean dialectal vocabulary should be used as a source for the section to be credible and conformant with Wikipedia's policies. As for "limón" used to refer to limes, the DRAE doesn't currently list that usage (not even as dialectal), so certainly it shouldn't be given as the "Standard Spanish" word for that meaning, and neither should "lima" be given as the Chilean-dialectal alternative when in fact it is the very word the DRAE considers "Standard Spanish" for that meaning.

--TheMexican (talk) 14:00, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Revision request: Valdivia, Chile

I have been working for a long time ith the Valdivia, Chile article, and I have expanded it a lot. I think it could soon be Good Article (GA), but first the article needs something like peer review, could you help to improve the article? Dentren | Talk 18:25, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] hi!

I'll review the information about Chon languages next week, when I have some time. There is a lot to say about them. By the way: are you writing about fuegian languages in the English wikipedia? We can share information. I think you know enough of them, specially about Chono. SElk'nam, Kawésqar and Yahgan should be improved too. Tehuelche is a dificult case, as this term is used to at least 3 different languages: Northern Tehuelche or Gününa Küne, a language isolate and extinct since 1960, Southern Tehuelche or Aonik'enk, a Chon language, and almost extinct, and between them, a language scarcely attested called "Teushen" taht was Chon also, but consistenly different from Aokik'enk. Actually, Aonik'enk is the name for the people ("the Southerns"), the languaje is Aonik'o 'ajen ("the speak of the South").DaniloVilicic 01:19, 5 October 2007 (UTC)DaniloVilicic

[edit] Mapudungun

I read thearguments against mapudungun given by that person. I just can't say anything but to laugh! This person seems to ignore that ALL linguistics works in the last decades use mapudungun as the name for the language. But of course, spaniards don't give a $%&/ about that. Ungortunatedly, language academies and linguists are on the opposite side of the river. DaniloVilicic 02:53, 6 October 2007 (UTC)DaniloVilicic

[edit] Merge Chiloé Island and Chiloé Province

Dont you think that Chiloé Island should be merged with Chiloé Province? Both article are abouth the same thing. For example Castro, Chile and many other chilean cities have only one article for both the city/town and the commune.Dentren | Talk 14:00, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Lost in translation

It should say: "Spanish speakers may also use the term norteamericano (North American), which englobes the U.S. of A., Canada and Mexico". The difference is that in Spanish there is no such thing as a "north american continent", but a "north american subcontinent" formed by three countries. Likewise, Central America is considered another subcontinent. The text could reflect that the term norteamericano, which initially makes reference to any of those three countries, has evolved to a point where many will equate it with the U.S. of A. This may be clearly seen here, for example.

As far as I can tell, UtherSRG only objects to the lack of capitalization. The same edit with Zorro Chilote capitalized should go through without further problems. ;) Cheers Raystorm (¿Sí?) 20:34, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, go ahead and remove it. You were reverted due to a style-consistency issue, not a content one. ;) Cheers Raystorm (¿Sí?) 23:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
