[edit] Not the standard language

Official language of the Federation? According to the novelization of ST:TMP, this is just plain wrong. Linguacode is a mathematical/symbolic language for transmitting to unknown races; it's designed around certain universal principles of mathematics and physics, and according to Kirk's thinking in the novel, even a handful of high school students with home computers could decipher it. (Presumably the high schools of the Federation teach much more advanced math than those of today, or else everyone in the future is a math geek like me. :) )

Linguacode is not at all a spoken language. It's definitely not English or any other official language of the Federation. It's more like the information encoded in the Pioneer plaque. Jdavidb 20:59, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Possible vandalism?

I reverted the anonymous edit that added the word "homo" to the description of the intelligence targeted by Linguacode. Certainly a universal language code invented by a interstellar federation would not be designed to target humans. This is assuming the anonymous editor did not intend the term "homo" as a slur. --Nathan Haines 08:17, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
