[edit] Questions About the Creation of this Page
[edit] Can you provide at least a reference that there is such a term in chemistry?
Thanks, Nergaal (talk) 08:00, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
I am currently working on finding sources, as there are few online.
- Internally, there are links which concur with my work here, including AXE method and VSEPR, two articles which differentiate the molecular geometry of linear and linear (N/A). However, both of these pages are currently devoid of references.
- Externally, the best place that I have found so far is: http://www.ausetute.com.au/shapemol.html

[edit] What does N/A stand for? The term used here is diatomic molecule.
Bduke (talk) 13:26, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- (N/A) refers to the number of electron pairs. It's not truly clear what the specific number is. F2 has 3 non-bonding electron pairs, whereas H2 has no non-bonding electron pairs. The term linear N/A refers to the type of molecular geometry. Whereas linear has 2 electron pairs and 2 bonding pairs, linear (N/A) has no specific number of electron pairs (as this may vary).
- I take back my portions of my previous comments. Linear (N/A) molecules are indeed diatomic- I mistakenly believed that what I now know to be heteronuclear diatomics were not diatomics at all.

[edit] In what way does "diatomic molecule" not provide a proper fit?
And in what way is HF not a diatomic molecule? Even the Australian reference you've given above doesn't actually say that there is such a thing as a linear (N/A) geometry. This all looks a bit dubious to me; I think we need some references please. Chris (talk) 20:39, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- See above portion, please.

[edit] I recommend that this page be converted to a redirect
My guess is that this page was created by a child learning some chemistry, which is fine, but an inappropriate use of Wikipedia. --Smokefoot (talk) 22:54, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think this is really here to complete the set of articles on the various shapes that are referred to in VSEPR and the like. Nevertheless I think it should be merged to Diatomic molecule and then made a redirect to there. --Bduke (talk) 23:26, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Bond angle
This section might be sourced to a tutorial which regrettably comes from my country, but it is nonsense. A bond angle is the angle between two bonds. There is no bond angle in a molecule with just one bond. That section should be deleted. --Bduke (talk) 00:08, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
