Linville, North Carolina

Linville is a small community located off US 221 in Avery County, North Carolina. The community -- at times known as Clay or Porcelain -- was incorporated in 1891 and named for William and John Linville, who were killed by Cherokees in 1766.[1], [2]

The East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad ("Tweetsie") passed through the community until a flood washed away the tracks in 1940.

Linville is located at 36°3′59″N, 81°52′13″W (36.06652, -81.87039)^[1] at an elevation of 3,671 feet.
