Link TV is a non-commercial American satellite television network providing diverse perspectives on world and national issues. The network reaches one out of four American homes.[citation needed] Link TV broadcasts a mix of documentaries, global and national news, the music of diverse cultures and participatory programs promoting citizen action. Most of Link TV’s programs have never been broadcast on American television. Select Link TV programs are streamed on the Internet. The network airs translated news programs from the Middle East in its Peabody Award-winning 30-minute program called Mosaic: World News from the Middle East. It also airs English language international news from DW-TV in Germany, as well as various documentaries and world music videos.[1]
Link TV's stated mission is to:
- Engage viewers with in-depth programs on issues of global importance.
- Provide diverse perspectives on world issues and cultures.
- Give voice to communities underrepresented in conventional media.
- Encourage action.
- Promote cross-cultural dialogue.
- Maintain independence.
Link TV is operated by Link Media, Inc., a nonprofit organization headed by Kim Spencer.[2] Production facilities are in San Francisco, Washington D.C. and New York City. Link TV was launched as a daily, 24-hour non-commercial network in 1999. It receives no money from satellite providers, but relies instead on contributions from viewers and foundations.
In the US, Link TV can be viewed via satellite on Channel 375 on DirecTV and 9410 on Dish Network.
