The Lingerie Football League is a women's American football league, known for its use of sex appeal.
The concept originated from the Lingerie Bowl, a pay-per-view event which was broadcast at the same time as the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show. The event featured two teams of models playing a football game while dressed in lingerie. The two original teams were Team Dream and Team Euphoria. Team Dream won the first game with a score of 6-0.
The League is an extension of this idea. The league was expanded to four teams in 2005:
- Los Angeles Temptation (formerly "Team Dream")
- New York Euphoria (formerly "Team Euphoria")
- Dallas Desire
- Chicago Bliss
The second season consisted of a three game schedule, with Los Angeles defeating Dallas in the Western Final and New York defeating Chicago in the Eastern Final on "Garter & Lace Championship Sunday" (January 30, 2005). Los Angeles then won over New York in Lingerie Bowl II, played during the same time as the Super Bowl XXXIX halftime show.
In 2006 season Los Angeles again defeated Dallas and New York again defeated Chicago in the "playoffs". But New York overcame their previous two losses by defeating Los Angeles 13-12 at Lingerie Bowl III on February 5, 2006.
No Lingerie Bowl was held in 2007. The 2008 Lingerie Bowl was scheduled to be played in Scottsdale, Arizona but the city failed to file the proper paperwork to allow the game to take place.
The League had announced it would expand to ten teams in 2008, adding:
- Atlanta Steam
- Las Vegas Sin
- Miami Caliente
- San Diego Seduction (originally planned for San Francisco)
- Tampa Breeze
- Phoenix Scorch
All but two of the teams have directly based their logos on the National Football League franchise in the home city (in the case of Los Angeles, the Oakland Raiders are the inspiration). The Las Vegas Sin (where there has never been an NFL franchise) and Phoenix Scorch (probably because of Bill Bidwill's objections) are the two teams that have not based their logos on an NFL team. It is unclear whether or not the league has granted permission to use these logos.
The games have been broadcast on a pay-per-view basis. There have been reports that the Fox network might broadcast a reality show based on the league, although nothing appears to have come from it. Dennis Rodman was named as Commissioner of the league in 2005.
