Assuming regular male-preference primogeniture (as is in place today), and assuming that each of his marriages was considered legitimate, the below would be the beginnings of the line of succession to the throne of Henry VIII upon his death on 29 January 1547:
- Edward Tudor, Prince of Wales (to become Edward VI)
- Lady Mary Tudor (to become Mary I)
- Lady Elizabeth Tudor (to become Elizabeth I)
- Mary, Queen of Scots, from whom is descended the House of Stuart
- Lady Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox
- Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley
- Lady Frances Brandon, Duchess of Suffolk
- Lady Jane Grey (to become the Nine Days Queen)
- Lady Catherine Grey
- Lady Mary Grey
- Eleanor Brandon, Countess of Cumberland
- Lady Margaret Clifford
In actual fact, any such line of succession was overridden by the Succession to the Crown Act, 1543, which named Edward, Mary and Elizabeth as successors of Henry VIII.
