Line 2 forms part of the Beijing Subway in the form of a loop, following the path of the 2nd Ring Road in Beijing, China. It is also known as the Loop Line.

Line 2 was expanded from its south and southwestern part to form a full loop in the early 1980s.

The line is extremely central to Beijing, and since the opening of the line 5 subway, it has become significantly busier.

It is linked to Line 1 at Fuxingmen and Jianguomen, Line 5 at Yonghegong Llama Temple and Chongwenmen, and to Line 13 at Xizhimen and Dongzhimen.

A new type of rolling stock recently arrived from the CSR Sifang Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co. Ltd. factory and is now in use. It has airconditioning, LCD and LED passenger information systems, and dot matrix destination displays. It was built to replace the aging fleet of the line.
