The Lind Family was a Scandinavian family that moved to Western Germany (Celtic Germany) and subsequently travelled to Scotland circa 1200. There are many Linds in Scotland, Sweden, Germany, Holland, France, Canada and USA. Related surnames include Lynd, Lynn, Linn, Lindberg and Liend. Lind is one of Scotland's oldest families and is one the most Scottish names there is. Many Linds immegrated from Scotland to North America during the highland clearances. Most notable to the Lind name are Sylvester Lind, Founder of the Chicago University, James Lind a close friend of Mary Shelley the writer of Frankenstein and another James Lind Who was a famous Scottish Physician. The Lind Family Motto is "Virtue Always Flourishes". Lind is a Viking/Celtic name.
