Lim May Zhee

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lim May Zhee is a young Malaysian author who wrote and published her first book at the age of 15. She published her second book the following year. By 17, she achieved best-selling status and won third place in the country's first ever Readers' Choice Awards. [[1]] She is also a self-publisher and oversees all publishing aspects of her books.

Her outspoken and somewhat arrogant attitude has angered bloggers and readers alike, who often flood her blog [[2]] with demeaning and rude comments. She is born and raised in Malaysia.

[edit] Self-publishing and writing

Lim's first work was published in the Youth2 column of The Star when she was 13. Since then her works have been published continuously. But it was in 2005 that she self-published her first novel, Vanitee Bee, which she had kept a secret from her parents until it was in the market.[[3]] As a result, she did not have adequate financial resources while writing it and was forced to personally handle the arduous process of book publishing.

Her second book, Sweetheart From Hell, published towards the end of 2007, became a best-seller and got her nominated for the Readers' Choice Awards. She won third place, and duly expressed her happiness as the only self-publisher in the nominee list.

As one of the country's youngest authors and self-publishers, Lim is frequently featured in the mainstream media, appearing on various TV and radio channels, newspapers and magazines. [[4]]

Her current genre is chick lit.

[edit] Controversy

Lim is often attacked for her insensitive remarks online, some including her views on other bloggers, the death of a celebrity and her open dislike for various things.

She is also criticized for her lack of humility, a trait she claims to have gotten her far in her career. Readers dislike the fact that she thinks highly of her achievements in areas like book publishing, academics and material possessions, because she is deemed to be unworthy of her boasts.

Her lightweight and humorous style of writing has been the target of her detractors as well, who call her writing "bimbotic". Lim made no rebuke, saying that her writings are indeed "fluff" and her only purpose in blogging is to entertain.
