Lijit is an American company based in Boulder, Colorado specializing in internet search. It provides web services which allow publishers (primarily bloggers) to create their own search engine. The publisher's search engines are created based on content they produce and their social graph across multiple social network services. Unlike algorithms such as PageRank, the filtering and ordering of results from Lijit is based on proximity to the publisher within the social graph; results "closer" to the publisher are returned first. Users interact with these search engines via the Lijit Search Wijit (widget) embedded on the publisher's website, or directly on the Lijit website.
[edit] History
Stan James and Todd Vernon founded Lijit in June of 2006[1]. The technology of the company began in 2004 as the thesis of Stan James at the University of Osnabrueck under the name Outfoxed[2]. The company has obtained funding from sources such as Boulder Ventures, Tango, Brad Feld, and CEO Todd Vernon[3].
