[edit] Religious Beliefs
Traditionalist Catholic, though I support celebrating Mass in the vernacular language. My theological and social views line up fairly well with Pope Benedict XVI. I am a strong believer in the infallibility of the Magisterium. I dislike the trend of American Catholicism embracing scholarly theories that oppose the Church, such as the many heretical footnotes in the New American Bible.
I am a supporter of the Knights of Columbus, and I think it is the duty of every Catholic to vote as the Church instructs them to (pro-life, against legalized gay unions, against euthanasia, against human cloning) even if they personally disagree with the bishops.
I am a strong opponent of "creation science" because it's nonsense. Many of the early Christians accepted allegorical and metaphorical interpretations of the book of Genesis so there's no reason to be a fundamentalist. Please disregard all of the creationist propaganda floating around; there is too much evidence for evolution to ignore its existence. Or, more simply, why could God not have guided evolution?

[edit] Political Beliefs
The figures most influential to my political beliefs are Pope Leo XIII and President Theodore Roosevelt.
I would ideally be considered a Christian Democrat, socially conservative and economically progressive (advocate of the Third Way and populism).
I think that the correlation between the top quality-of-life index countries and the highest nations on the index of economic freedom is not something that can be ignored; capitalism and free trade do work, much better than democratic socialism and protectionism. However, all of these countries have social market economies, which is why I think universal health care, accident insurance, progressive taxes, social security, minimum wage, antitrust laws and environmental regulations are all necessary for both a strong market and social justice; the purpose of the progressive market is to increase independency from the government.
I don't support the Republican Party for several reasons: (1) I feel that although most Republicans are fairly moderate, the GOP itself stands for abolishing separation of church and state by re-instating school prayer and teaching intelligent design; (2) the Republican Party is more interested in continued tax cuts than addressing the deficit and coming recession; (3) the party still opposes universal health care even though every developed nation in the world has socialized medicine (even Saudi Arabia); (4) islamophobia is the norm of the GOP's party icons; (5) Republicans are usually patriotic for the wrong reasons, i.e., how they want to ban flag desecration; and (6) the party as a whole is apathetic towards environmental concerns. However, I almost always vote for the Republican candidate as there are few pro-life Democrats. Among international parties which I support, Centrist Democrat International and the European People's Party are the most prominent for sharing my ideology and supporting Christian Democracy.
My favorite U.S. presidents are George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson, and William McKinley. I love my country.

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government
control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on
the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention
and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.
Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,
tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what
they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

Pro-Government Conservatives stand out for their strong religious faith and conservative views on many social and cultural issues. They also express broad support for a social safety net, which sets them apart from the other two core Republican groups. While backing George W. Bush by roughly six-to-one, this group has one of the lowest incomes levels in the typology. Pro-Government Conservatives are skeptical about the effectiveness of the marketplace, favoring government regulation to protect the public interest, and government assistance for the needy.

- "I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me." - Jesus, Matthew 25:40
- "A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader." - Samuel Adams
- "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." - Edmund Burke
