Liga Leumit 1988-89

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1988-89 Liga Leumit season began on September 1988 and ended on June 1989, with Maccabi Haifa winning their third title.

The regular season had each team play twice against each opponent. The table was then divided into two, with six teams entering the championship play-off and eight in the relegation play-off, where each team played the other teams in the play-off once, causing the bottom group teams to play seven more games and the top group teams to play five more.

Two teams from Liga Artzit were promoted at the end of the previous season: Hapoel Jerusalem and Hapoel Tiberias. The two teams relegated were Hapoel Lod and Maccabi Petah Tikva.
