[edit] Biography
Ash started out as a bass player in high school bands and learned how to sample music on 8/16-bit computers. In the mid and late 1990s, he produced mainly for other artists before signing for Parisian label 20000ST in 2001. His first single on the label, "The Soul of My Love" featured samples from New York soul singer Mandel Turner. The single was a club hit in France during 2002, reaching fifth place on the French dance chart with support by Parisian Radio FG and DJs including Alex Gopher. A later single the same year, "Black Chess" was chosen by Thomas Bangalter, Philippe Zdar and DJ Falcon as the introduction to their Together 2002 Tour performances.
After remixing artists such as Annie, OT Quartet, Demon and Sébastien Léger, Ash met up with German producer Christophe Hoeffel in the winter of 2004. The collaboration resulted in the track Discopolis, an underground club hit that was picked up by Alan Braxe and released on his label Vulture Music in 2005. The single was re-released in 2006 on Defected Records with support in a music video from Seb Janiak (Daft Punk's "Burnin'") and new remixes by Braxe, Chris Lake and Kerri Chandler.
