[edit] Release and reception
"Life Got Cold" was not the original choice for the group's third single. Polydor Records originally chose "Some Kind of Miracle" but that plan was dropped after a huge fan response to this release. "Life Got Cold" was released in the United Kingdom on August 18, 2003. The single featured a cover of the Duran Duran song "Girls On Film" as the b-side, as well as remixes. The cassette features "Lights, Music, Camera Action" as a b-side.
Many reviewers criticised the track, alluding that the riff of the chorus ripped off the 1995 Oasis hit "Wonderwall". A BBC review called the song a "charming ballad", but also stated "part of the chorus sounds like it is going to turn into Wonderwall by Oasis."[1] A source told The Sun that Girls Aloud "are all big Oasis fans so I’m sure they won’t mind comparisons with their classic love song."[2]
The song was given a reggae reworking for the The Sound of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits Tour.
[edit] Music video
The music video for "Life Got Cold" depicted the band members frozen or in stunted movement wandering around an abandoned city setting. Both group and individual shots are shown in various scenes, including an abandoned bus, a kitchen, an alley, and a street curb.
