[edit] Themes
The album is largely about Zevon's then-undiagnosed lung cancer, which eventually killed him, and the constant pain it caused. For instance, "My Shit's Fucked Up" is is a mournful lament to the aging process and the inevitable decay that accompanies it. It describes the narrator (tacitly Zevon himself) visiting a doctor, where he receives unpleasant news: "your shit's fucked up". [1] [2] [3]
