Liechtenstein has tried to enter the Eurovision Song Contest twice; in 1969 and in 1976. This is despite not being a member of the European Broadcasting Union, a fundamental rule to enter. In 1969 their entry was supposedly "Un Beau Matin" by Vetty, which is available as a music file, but it is now believed that this was a joke on the part of the French company who made a compilation CD. Even if the song was real, the rules at the time would have made it impossible for the Liechtensteiner entry to be sung entirely in French. One thing that is known, however, is that in 1976, Biggi Bachmann was due to sing "My Little Cowboy" for the principality in The Hague, however the lack of EBU membership meant that it was not possible for him to go. Bachmann later entered a Swiss national final for a later contest, but did not win.
Liechtenstein will remain unable to join the EBU, and thus to enter the Contest, while it continues to have no national television or radio station.
