[edit] Preramble

I've been told that I should have a user page. Apparently, "it is a Good Thing". While I tend to be one who enjoys my privacy and usually prefers that my deeds speak for myself above what I say, if a user page "is a Good Thing", then perhaps I had better have one after all. So here it is. A user page. Enjoy.

Those who wish to know what my real name is know where to look. However, apart from my LichYoshi moniker, I go around by the alias DTYvK.

That aside, I live in the city of Brisbane, which lies on the east coast of Australia, a fraction north of the most easterly point of the continent. I study Town Planning at the University of Queensland, although I also work "casually" as a Customer Service Officer (unofficial title) and Barista for a Large Multinational Company. I'm also a member of the Anglican Communion.

I have a great interest in music, singing in my church's choir and occasionally writing the odd tune or two for my friends; to add a twist, I also play the bagpipes (Great Highland Bagpipe in particular). Although I like to consider it my main hobby, music (especially composition) is prone more to lapses in inspiration and motivation than my other major hobby, that of writing. My stories (short story or short novel in length, or chapters for multi-writer stories) tend to be set in a complicated, inclusive, extended and modified fanfiction alternative universe of Nintendo and some other video games which use fairly "original" characters as my main literary foci. Indeed, my Wikipedia moniker is one of my names for the main character in my series - he speaks that conlang in my Babel list as his native tongue. I also have a fantasy novel that's been in development since 1998, before I started writing fanfiction; this fact is perhaps a saving grace of my literary esteem for some people's views of my work.

While I may want to be a town planner for a few years (enough to get a good financial base) and branch out into my more artistic pursuits afterwards, my current goal in life is to travel in a roadtrip of sorts around the United States and Canada, aiming for April-September 2009.

I came onto Internet in 1997 with a "56K" modem; this lasted over eight years until I got a cable connection in December 2005.

[edit] Wikipedianess

I was introduced to Wikipedia some time in late 2004 or early 2005 (I forget). I signed up as a Wikipedian in April 2005 after I had made a few minor contributions and fixed a few linguistic errors here and there anonymously for some time beforehand.

Although I may disappear from making contributions for some time, I try to keep up with my watchlist somewhat regularly.

My contributions mainly lie in entries related to the Seiken Densetsu/Mana series of games for the Game Boy/Super Nintendo/Sony Playstation, although, on occasion, I do make minor changes in other places where my Wikipedian interests take me (more often than not to spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors).

As of October 2005, I have gained some sort of (masochistic) pleasure in occasionally patrolling new Wikipedia articles. It has its rewards in occasionally finding something warranting BJAODN's attention (or so I hope).

[edit] Wikipedia Reading List

  • World History: 1801 to 2008 by year in Notable Events and Science and Technology
    • Progress: 1914 55%
    • Reason: Because I thought it was shameful that I didn't understand how the modern world formed. I also want to study geopolitics for the sake of my fantasy novel.
      • As a sub-project of this, as it's been brought into being since I started the world history project, I am going year by year in Australian history, 1788 to 2008.
      • Progress: 1873 38.9%
  • National Capital Cities of the World, A-Z
    • Progress: 0%
    • Reason: Doing national capitals by country alphabetically is easy enough. One would start with Kabul (or Sukhumi) and end with Harare. But wouldn't it be more interesting if countries were listed alphabetically according to their capitals? So, I am starting with Abidjan and going to Zagreb instead. I'm also pairing this with having a look at each city in Google Earth.

[edit] To Do List

  • You -> the player project - The use of "you" in video game articles is one of my biggest pet peeves; if video games are to be taken as a serious medium the way one would take fine art, and not with the attitude of ephemerality that is commonplace, then the articles need to be as professional as possible. If I come across an instance of the second person being used outside of quoting text, I will leap on it like a hyper Rabite with a vengeance. Apart from that, I intend to go through all of the video game articles and rewrite all references to the second person as third, as per WP:CVG/GL. Wish me luck.

[edit] Vandal Log

vn-1 This user page has been vandalized once.

Whoo, I must be a real Wikipedian now. Someone's taken the trouble to vandalise this page.

1. 31/10/05 15:13 (AEST) - Anon. IP; suspected to be on BigPond (shame on you, fellow Australian)

Corrected 31/10/05 15:13 (AEST) - Ixfd64. Thank you!

That's it. I hope it served your needs well. There are more interesting places than here.
