[edit] Valid concept
Anyone who thinks Libre Services as a valid concept has no place should be able to answere the question of What should become of Free Software when it is transformed into services.
The Libre Services movement is notable because of what it has accomplished. See relevant web pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AzadSokhangoo (talk • contribs)

[edit] Valid Concept and In Place
This note is for the person who said this page reads as an essay and does not merit being in wikipedia.
Libre Services is similar and has many parallels with "Free Software" and "Open Source". The same logic that made those concepts merit having a page applies here.
Coceptually speaking, Libre Services is newer than Free Software / Open Source /... and builds on those. So, naturally this page builds on those.
Libre Services is a well articulated, established and valid concept.
This page was just created (Nov. 30th PST) and clearly needs work.
I (and likely a number of others) will be editing and improving the quality of information and writing over the next several days.

- Should we call it Libre web services? Kim 17:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

- No. Libre Web services is too limiting. For example a pure mail service can also be a Libre Service. AzadSokhangoo —Preceding comment was added at 21:48, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
The concept is valid. Two examples: From free software, we get Linux and a plethora of free software applications for Linux. From free (or Libre) services, we could potentially get a search engine with access to its source code, to modify for different uses, or to be assured that certain features are correctly implemented (e.g. privacy safeguards). Right now everybody uses Google - but do we know in detail what is behind the Google search engine? We don't. We are at Google (or other search providers') mercy as far as assurances they provide regarding privacy.
Looks to me that the concept of free or Libre services is not limited to the Web either. You can have messaging systems (say, wireless), which fall in this category. Once again, a method of wireless communications about which everything is public and modifiable. —Preceding comment Alins 21:52, 3 December 2007 (UTC)]] comment added by Alins (talk • contribs) 20:01, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Would we still be at the mercy of commercial service providers when they assure us that our data will be kept safe, and our privacy safeguarded? Or would we be able to see for ourselves - in the code - what is being done to implement such safeguards?
