[edit] The Ephebe Library
Did Brutha really memorize all of the library? I don't remember that and by the way it doesn't seem consistent: he only had time to go through some of the most important books, didn't he?
It's clearly hyperbole. Brutha certainly memorised a vast number of books, though certainly not all, and he and the philosophers carted no small number away themselves as well. Brutha, from what I recall, couldn't quite cope with all the knowledge and had to lie down. -- Supermorff 18:36, 27 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] The Librarian image
I have restored the image, claimed to be "un-representative". It depicts an orangutan in a library. According to Terry Pratchett's writings, the Librarian is an orangutan who works in a library. An actual photograph of the Librarian is not possible because he is a fictional character, and a photograph of an orangutan in a library would be difficult to get hold of. In the circumstances this is the most representative image we have. Feel free to replace it with a better one. --=# Amos E Wolfe talk #=- 09:06, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- The image in question is essentially fan-art. There are numerous images (eg [1], [2], [3], etc) used within the books themselves, or as part of merchandise, officially approved by pterry, that we should not be using this original art. I am re-removing it, as I consider it better to not have a picture, than to have an incorrect picture.
- It might be prudent to note that you created the image in question, and so might have an inherent bias on this issue ;) Sorry. --Quiddityยท(talk) 10:15, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Monty Python
"The origin of the Librarian may have come about because of a sketch in an episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus, where administrators are interviewing a gorilla named Mr. Phelps for a job as a librarian, but discover he's just a man in a costume".
This reads like speculation and original research. "May have come about.."? Can anyone confirm this and source it? If not, i think we should re-write the opening paragraph. Dr bab 13:18, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I removed the speculative bit.Dr bab 14:53, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orangutan Foundation Support
I was under the impression that the Librarian was an unofficial mascot of the Orangutan Foundation. I think this should be represented somewhere in the article. 58.161.67.66 (talk) 13:24, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
