The LF third brigade was formed in June 2007. It comprises infantry, armored, artillery and Air Defense artillery-missile units, engineering and logistics units.
The command HQ of the Third Brigade is based in Nis, while the units are based in Prokuplje, Zajecar, Kursumlija and Nis.

The LF Third Brigade was formed during the organizational and mobilization changes in SAF, in the period March-June 2007, and is made up of personnel and devices of units located in the South East of Serbia. It comprises parts of 211th Armored Brigade, 21st Reconnaissance Units Training Center, 4th, 125th and 549th motorized brigade, 9th infantry and 52nd combined-arms artillery and Air Defense 52nd artillery-rocket brigade, as well as 352nd engineering regiment, 201st logistics base and a Military Medical Center. Majority of these establishments have acquired a long-standing and note-worthy combat and peacetime experience.

The LF Third Brigade comprises brigade, seven battalions (command, two infantry, two mechanized and one engineering and logistics battalion) and three divisions (self-propelled howitzer artillery, artillery-rocket and a multiple rocket-launcher division)

[edit] Purpose
Purpose and tasks of LF First Brigade stem from the tasks and purpose of SAF defined in the Strategic Defense Review. Current tasks:
- building and maintaining of the ordered level of combat readiness
- preparing and deploying units and troops to secure the Kosovo administrative line and to control the Ground Security Zone in the South of Serbia.
- training and enabling command, units and troops to perform special-purpose tasks
- preparing and deploying units to assist civil authorities in addressing the consequences of possible natural disasters and catastrophes.

- engaging brigade establishments on tasks of securing the administrative border towards Kosovo and Metohija within the Ground Security Zone.

The LF Third Brigade all LF branches and arms are trained and special emphasis is on training members of infantry units, and crews of artillery and Air Defense artillery-rocket units and crews of engineering units.
