From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The District of Lezhë (Albanian: Rrethi i Lezhës) is one of the thirty-six districts of Albania. It has a population of 68,000 (2004 estimate), and an area of 479 km². It is in the north-west of the country, and its capital is Lezhë. Other places in this district include Shëngjin.
Lezha is located in north Albania and is a region with a history of thousands of years. In Lezhe Beslidhja e Lezhes was created under the order of Gjergj Kastriotit-Skenderbeu. It was created not only to unite the regions of Albania but it was this international hero that managed to protect the Catholic religion from definitive threats. The Pope himself at that time considered him the savior of Christianity, and the king of Italy granted him entire regions of southern Italy as a reward for not only saving Christianity but also Italy from the invasion of the Turks.
Lezha has brought up very smart people, from Frang Bardhi to Gjergj Fishta and even more these days. God has given Lezha three natural beauties; Lezha has some of the highest mountains. Where the mountain of vela is forever proud, along with the mountainous area of Kashnjeti or Malsise of Lezha, up to Rubik, where the fields are lush like the fields of Lezhe-Shkoder (Zadrime, Kallmeti, torovice), and the fields of Lezhe-Mat (Manati, Spiten, Zejmen, Tale, etc). The waves of the Adriatic ocean which hit the shore of Lezha start at the Shengjin (shnin) Harbor, one of the three largest harbors of Albania, and up to Tale, to Dredhja e Lumit Mat, where it passes through Lezha and pours into the Adriatic Sea and in the largest river in Albania, Lumi Drin.[1]
