Leyland Panther

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leyland Panther was a rear-engined single-deck bus chassis built by Leyland between 1964 and 1971. It gained a reputation for unreliability, which to some extent was common to many of the first generation of rear-engined single-deckers.

The largest quantity of Panthers was purchased by Liverpool Corporation, which took 110 with bodywork by Metro-Cammell. In total, over 600 Panther chassis were built.

A few Panthers were built as coaches with a higher chassis frame, most of these being bodied by Plaxton, but they were quite rare.
