A good first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie Studios exclusively for the Xbox 360. The game is the third title in the Halo series and concludes the story arc that began in Halo: Combat Evolved and continued in Halo 2.
The game was released on September 25, 2007 in Australia, Brazil, India, New Zealand, North America, and Singapore;September 26, 2007 in Europe; and September 27, 2007 in Japan. On the day before its official release, 4.2 million units of Halo 3 were in retail outlets.Halo 3 holds the record for the highest grossing opening day in entertainment history, bringing in US$170 million in its first 24 hours, going on to gross US$300 million in its first week.More than one million people played Halo 3 on Xbox Live in the first twenty hours. As of January 3, 2008, Halo 3 has sold 8.1 million copies, and is the best-selling video game of 2007 in the U.S. Halo 3's story centers on the interstellar war between 26th century humanity, led by the United Nations Space Command, and a collection of alien races known as the Covenant. The player assumes the role of the Master Chief, a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier, as he wages war in defense of humanity, assisted by human Marines as well as allied alien Elites led by the Arbiter. The game features vehicles, weapons, and gameplay not present in previous titles of the series,as well as the addition of saved gameplay films, the Forge map editor (which allows the player to perform modifications to levels), and file sharing. Overall, the game was well-received by critics, with the Forge and multiplayer offerings singled out as strong features; on Game Rankings, Halo 3 ranks as the sixth highest rated Xbox 360 game to date.
[edit] Rainbow Six Vegas
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas is the fifth chronological game in the Rainbow Six series of video games. It was released for the Xbox 360 on November 21, 2006 and Windows on December 12, 2006. The PlayStation Portable version was released on June 12, 2007 for North America and Europe, while the PlayStation 3 version was released on June 26, 2007. The game's storyline follows a new Rainbow team that is dispatched to Las Vegas, Nevada to defeat international terrorist Irena Morales and her army of mercenaries that is repeatedly attacking key locations in the city. Rainbow Six Vegas changes the series with multiple new features, such as a new health system where the player regenerates health while not taking fire (it should be noted that the player may sometimes be killed instantly, without a chance to regenerate health; this usually happens from grenades, as well as taking close range fire from very powerful weapons, particularly to the head). However, the regeneration is slow in comparison to other games; if the player does not move to cover quickly enough, one or two more bullets will lead to death. The player's vision is also greatly impaired while damaged, similar to the health system in Gears of War. Furthermore, a third-person view has been included for moments where players can blind-fire around corners to lay down suppression or covering fire. Other changes include a larger enemy presence and much tougher artificial intelligence, a shift in focus to where kills will be much harder to obtain, a reincarnated aiming system similar to the aiming system of the old Rainbow Six games and Call of Duty, a context-sensitive D-pad based command system for the player's squad and sections of game play where the player will scale buildings and cause environmental damage. This command system was borrowed from another Ubisoft game, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. The player can also give voice commands using the Xbox 360 headset, but team-mates are no longer audible through the headset. The game has also been noted for rectifying the artificial intelligence for squad members, a problematic gameplay element that afflicted previous games in the series, alongside Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.
The developers have also opted to not include any cutscenes, instead telling the story through video feeds played through the heads-up display, similar to Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Most important was the developers' decision to remove the mission planning feature.
[edit] Guitar Hero III
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the third full installment in the Guitar Hero series (the fourth title overall). The game is published by Activision and RedOctane, with Neversoft as the developer for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii consoles, and Aspyr Media as the developer for the PC and Macintosh computers. Due to the acquisition of RedOctane by Activision, Harmonix Music Systems is no longer involved in developing titles in the Guitar Hero series; instead, they developed the competing Rock Band.
As with the previous Guitar Hero games, the player uses a guitar-shaped controller to simulate the playing of varying genres of rock music by playing notes as they scroll in-time with the music. Gameplay from the previous installments of the series has remained mainly intact, except for the addition of a new cooperative career mode. The game features over 60 total songs, many of which, in contrast to previous games, are master tracks. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is available both individually and in bundles packaged with wireless controllers. Previous Guitar Hero controllers are compatible with this title. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the first game in the series to feature online play, in addition to existing game modes.
Furthermore, the game includes Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave) and Slash (of Guns N' Roses/Slash's Snakepit/Velvet Revolver) as in-game characters. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions also include Bret Michaels (Poison). The Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock gameplay remains unchanged from previous titles in the series; the player must hit notes as they scroll towards the bottom of the screen in time with music in order to maintain their performance and to score points. Hitting notes using the guitar controller requires strumming the strum bar while holding down the correct fret button(s). Playing with the standard controller only requires the correct button to be pressed. Notes can be sustained (in which the fret button(s) must remain held until the note is complete) and can also form a chord (2 or 3 notes played together). The game also simulates hammer-ons and pull-offs for sections with a rapid series of notes. Missing a note will cause a performance meter to drop; if this meter drops too low, the player will fail the song, represented in-game by the band being booed off the stage. A string of 10 consecutive correct notes earns a multiplier to increase the player's score (up until four times), and special sections, marked by starred notes, can be used to build Star Power; when released (by tilting the guitar controller up vertically or hitting a button on a standard controller), the player's multiplier is doubled, and there is less of a penalty for missing notes. As with the previous games in the series, Guitar Hero III contains four difficulty levels: Easy (which uses three of the fret buttons); Medium (which makes use of four of the fret buttons); Hard (which utilizes all five fret buttons); and Expert (which adds no new fret buttons, but increases the number of notes and the general difficulty).
[edit] Call Of Duty 4
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward[5] and published by Activision for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows. It is the fourth installment in the Call of Duty video game series (excluding expansions), the first not to be set during World War II, and the first game in the series to be rated Mature in North America. It was announced on April 25, 2007.[6] It was released on November 6, 2007 in North America, on November 7, 2007 in Australia, and on November 9, 2007 in Europe. The game also became available on Steam on November 6, 2007 for pre-purchase and was available to play as of November 12, 2007.[7] A Mac OS X version of the game is scheduled to be released in May 2008. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare focuses on the progression of warfare as a contemporary infantry soldier, presenting the player with a vast number of different combat scenarios unseen in previous Call of Duty titles. It strays from the constant assaults, interspersing high-intensity firefights with slower-paced drama and suspenseful clandestine action. The series's move to modern warfare introduces a variety of new weapons and technology to the Call of Duty franchise, including the M203 grenade launcher, M4A1 carbine, the AN/PEQ-2 Target Pointer for use in conjunction with night vision goggles, the MP5SD submachine gun, and the FGM-148 Javelin portable anti-tank guided missile.
The game moves away from the prior three country-specific campaign style; the plot remains cinematic, with storylines interlaced from the perspective of members of the British Special Air Service and United States Marine Corps Force Recon. Characters
Player characters During the single player campaign the player controls these characters from a first-person perspective.
Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish is a member of the 22nd SAS Regiment. The player assumes the role of MacTavish for the majority of the game. Sergeant Paul Jackson is part of the USMC 1st Force Recon deployed to the Middle East. The player assumes Jackson's character during five levels of Act 1. Captain Price is a commanding officer of the 22nd SAS Regiment. The player assumes the role of Price in a flashback. Yasir Al-Fulani is the president of the unnamed Middle Eastern country involved in the game. The player assumes the role of the captive Al-Fulani in the game's opening credit sequence. The player assumes the role of an American thermal imaging TV operator aboard an AC-130 gunship for one level.[9] During the epilogue, the player controls a British SAS counter terrorist operative, infiltrating a hijacked airliner to save a VIP.
Allies Throughout the game, various non-player characters provide support as members of the players team. Because they are vital to the plot, they cannot truly be harmed by any threat during the normal course of the game.
United Kingdom Special Air Service
Captain Price is a member of the 22nd SAS Regiment. He leads Soap and his squad (call sign Bravo) during the present-day SAS missions. His squad's ultimate goal is to prevent the proliferation of nuclear material gathered from Chernobyl. Gaz is part of the 22nd SAS Regiment and Bravo team. He accompanies the player on most SAS missions. Captain MacMillan is an SAS scout/sniper and Price's mentor. Fifteen years prior to the events of the game, he commanded the assassination mission of Imran Zakhaev at Prypiat with Price (who was a Lieutenant at the time). Russian Loyalists
Sergeant Kamarov is the leader of a group of Russian loyalist forces. His troops cooperate with SAS operations in Russia at several points in the game, attempting to suppress the Ultranationalists. "Nikolai" is an informant in the Ultra nationalist movement. The intelligence he provides is key to the success of the SAS. At one point in the story his cover is compromised and he is evacuated from Russia to Hamburg by the 22nd SAS Regiment. United States Marine Corps. Force Recon
Lieutenant Vasquez is an officer of the USMC 1st Force Recon and is Jackson's platoon leader. He also leads his squad, call sign Red Dog. He leads the initial assault to capture Khaled Al-Asad. Staff Sergeant Griggs is a member of the USMC 1st Force Recon and is a support gunner in squad Red Dog. He later participates in the joint SAS/USMC operation in the later stages of the game.
Enemies Khaled Al-Asad is one of the antagonists of the game and is searched for through most in the game. He is the commander of the revolutionary forces in the Middle East and an ally of Imran Zakhaev. Imran Zakhaev is the leader of the Russian Ultra-nationalist party and the main antagonist of the game. He seeks revenge for the "fall from glory" his people suffered to the Cold War and its aftermath. He lost his left arm in a failed assassination attempt by an SAS sniper team 15 years before the events of the game. Captain Price was the junior member of the team that tried to kill Zakhaev. Victor Zakhaev is the son of Imran Zakhaev and a priority figure in the Ultra nationalist party. He escorts Yasir Al-Fulani to his execution. He is later pursued by US and British forces
