[edit] History

Lewisham station opened in 1886[1]. The Main Suburban Railway Line through Lewisham was quadruplicated in 1892[2], and an island platform with two side platforms was built to serve both 'fast' and 'slow' pairs of tracks. The line was sextuplicated through Lewisham in 1927 in association with electrification works[3] and the island platform serving the old 'fast' pair of tracks (to become the 'Up' and 'Down Suburban' tracks) was trimmed into a side platform to allow the provision of the new 'Up and Down Main' lines.
