Lewis Hallam

Lewis Hallam (circa 1714-1756) was the owner of the first theatrical company in the United States. He was an actor of English descent who arrived in North America with his theatrical company (the American Company), in 1752. They first performed in Williamsburg, Virginia, then Hallam built the first theater in New York City. After touring throughout the future United States, Hallam died in Jamaica.

His son is known as Lewis Hallam the Younger.
