[edit] Crime Section Removal

I have removed this section (once again) for the following reasons:

1. It contains POV statements such as: "many attacks have been caused by the travelling community" and "Letterkenny, like all other large Irish cities and towns, has a high rate of violence. Most of this violence takes place on the town’s main street, in the early hours of the morning, and is caused by drunken revellers"

2. The refernece link [6] does not relate to Letterkenny but, rather, to Northern Ireland

3. The other references detail particular crime waves or isolated incidences from 2005 and 2006, which do not prove that crime in Letterkenny is any worse or better than in any other town in Ireland.

Even the Dublin article does not have a Crime Section! Ciaranc 09:10, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Town Council Offices

This paragraph is confusing to me and needs editing. Who is Tarla McGabhainn and what has being in Berlin to do with the offices in Letterkenny? There is also some sort of ship/funnel of ship incorporated into the design but this isn't mentioned. Also, it is not a grass roof, but some sort of heather. Can someone who knows more about architecture and design than me, edit this piece?

[edit] Clean-Up

Hope you all like what I've done with the page! Have described each step so people can see the reasoning behind my decisions. Still more work to be done.Afn

[edit] What goes under here is just beautiful.

i think this page should have more detail as there is not enough information about it --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Together&forever (talkcontribs) .

Granted. However, pasting stuff from websites will do no good. Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 23:03, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

i think there should more information about pubs, shops, restaurants etc. --Together&forever 14:10, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, you keep saying that. Feel free to add such information. However;
  • Do not paste from websites.
  • Please provide an edit summary.
  • Avoid unncessary adjectives such as "beautiful" - it's WP:POV.
Sincerely, Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 12:39, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

what about sport and where will i find the infomation --Together&forever 14:10, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

I don't know. How am I supposed to know? If I knew, I'd add it myself. Try Google. But remember my advice above! Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 12:46, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

what is your opinion on letterkenny and what do you think of the information i put on

i made the edits as i thought there wasn't enough info. about letterkenny --Together&forever 14:10, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

I have no opinion on Letterkenny, really. The information you add is good, although a bit sparse. Some of it looks like it's copied directly from another site on the Internet though. That is not acceptable. Other than that, keep up the good work! Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 13:03, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

i don't copy it is just because i'm good at english and good at phrasing words. do you want me to add to the wikipedia or not --Together&forever 14:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Judging by your comments here and your inability to sign your posts on the talk page and to use edit summaries, you are NOT very good at english. You are welcome to contribute to Wikipedia if thou dost so wish. All I am asking is for you to stick to the rules. -- Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 13:51, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

sorry --Together&forever 14:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

how do i upload a picture --Together&forever 14:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

You should read the tutorial, a link is posted on your talk page. You should consider logging in to your account before making any further edits, too. Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 15:35, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

thank you Together&forever --Together&forever 14:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

i edited the attractions for letterkenny as i thought peiople who are going to visit the town might want more information and places to go and things to do when they come here. Together&forever —Preceding unsigned comment added by Together&forever (talkcontribs)

Great, great. But cease copying stuff from the internet and do not remove the notice on merging. I repeat: do not remove the template about merging. Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 16:46, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

ok but am i meant to do anything with the donegal democrat--Together&forever 16:51, 14 June 2006 (UTC) Together&forever

No. Thank you. Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 16:55, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

i found out about the painters in the glebe gallery from a brochure i found --Together&forever 16:59, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Together&forever

That's not good enough, unfortunately. Those are quite famous painters, so if they're actually hanging there, you could probably find a website saying so. Try [Google. Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 17:01, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

if you go to http://www.accommodationdonegal.com/Attractions.htm you will find my source and i did not copy it i put it in my own words.--Together&forever 17:11, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Together&forevrer

Actually I looked, but I couldn't find it. Where? Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 18:56, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

go into the website, scroll down and look through the local attractions you should find it there. --Together&forever 14:12, 15 June 2006 (UTC) 19:00, 14 June 2006

There is a mention of Glebe Gallery, but no information about the gallery in question. The citation needed-tag is there because a source is needed on the statement that there are paintings by famous Modernist and Cubist painters hanging in it, not that it exists. By the way, please don't remove links just because they are red. Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 19:14, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

it says the glebe gallery above it, well it did when i seen it and it still does and it mentions the painters as well. and that is a reliable source because it is illegal to put false onfo. on the net.--Together&forever 19:23, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Together&forever

can i not put a link to an grianan theatre and people would find more info. why can't i put a link on the red writing.--Together&forever 19:25, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Together&forever

It is, as a matter of fact, perfectly legal to put false info on the internet. Where did you get this strange idea?
But nevertheless, I found it now. I'll add the reference.
You can't (or, rather, shouldn't) put an external link instead of the red link because there is already a link to the An Grianán Theatre website in the External links section. Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 19:28, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

ok thank you how do you make a picture appear on the page e.g. i am talking about a building and i want to place a picture of it beside it to show people what it is like.--Together&forever 19:33, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Together&forever

First, see Wikipedia:How to edit a page#Images. That will bring you up to date about how you add existing images to articles. Then, if there are no existing image that suits your needs, you can upload a new one. In that case, make sure you understand Wikipedia:Image use policy. It is extremely important that you take caution to not upload copyrighted material to Wikipedia. Finally, to upload an image, go to Special:Upload and follow the instructions. If there is something you don't understand, see Wikipedia:Uploading images. If you're still not getting it, ask me. Sincerely, Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 19:52, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Are the pictures o.k--Together&forever 20:42, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Tigether&forever

No, they are not. I removed them from the article and tagged them all for deletion. Did you read through the links I gave you? Apparently not. Don't do it again, ok? Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 21:24, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

You can not take pictures from a website. Nor can you not claim these as yours. Not ever. You are supposed to get pictures by taking them yourself, not by stealing them from someone else. Read Wikipedia:Image use policy and copyright. Thank you. Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 12:41, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

i edited the library and arts centre because i thought there wasn't enough information on it.--The Big Brain 18:12, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

i edited an grianan theatre because it needed more information.

I made a section on amenities for people who want to find out about stuff to do, and I removed The Library and Arts Centre from entertainment to amenities as a library is more of an amenity ratherthan a place of entertainment.--The Big Brain 19:36, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

my source for the st conals article is http://www.letterkennyguide.com/stconals.asp--The Big Brain 21:32, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Letterkenny Images

If anyone has images of any of the topics talked about in the Letterkenny article they would be welcomed.--The Big Brain 17:09, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Indeed they would. Copyrighted images, however, would not be welcomed. Do you live in or close to Letterkenny? Grab that digital camera and go, go! Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 23:11, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Attractions

Sorry, but some of these really need to go. The trouble with some of them is that they are not actually in Letterkenny! Glenveagh Castle in particular requires a violent stetch of the imagination to be included in this article and certainly does not belong. The museum is the only one that certainly does. It is only a matter of time at this rate until somebody includes the pyramids or the Eiffel tower. Pathlessdesert 15:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

I won't mourn them. AWAY! Feel free to clean up the rest of the article too :) Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 15:03, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
Actually I wrote the parts about the theatre, using information supplied by our dear crazy kid User:Together&forever. But away with it! Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 15:18, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

No sooner said than done. Ridded article of tourist board-sounding stuff, tea and coffee availability, etc. An encyclopedic article really doesn't need this sort of information. Pathlessdesert

will somebody else please add to the letterkenny section. please please--The Big Brain 20:42, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

If nobody objects, I'm going to take a chainsaw to this article. There is a lot of duplication and bits out of place. The History and Economy section includes (or should include) most of the new info. Afn 16:54, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Bring out the chainsaw! Jobjörn (Talk | contribs) 18:49, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Think About It

I put the climate in Letterkenny arrticle and fixed other stuff. is that o.k. I think it is.Qwertyuiopasdfgh vfen 20:22, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi qwerty. That climate info you gave is based on general Irish info not Letterkenny. The climate is very different up here compared to Dublin or Wexford.

Another comment is that the Nightlife and Retail sections look a bit like Advertisements. Should Sister Sara'a And Victor's really be mentioned? Not to start a revert war I'll let you sort it out. Afn 09:54, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

a lot of other places eg shopping centres tell of their retailers look at dublin, cork and their nightlifes as well--Qwertyuiopasdfgh vfen 12:12, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

it isn't an advertisement . i think you should delete half of the dublin article if thats what you think. but i am not deleting it and i really don't think you should and any further action of you deleting these articles i will replace them. thank you.--Qwertyuiopasdfgh vfen 12:11, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

it's always difficult to know where to stop with info on wikipedia. If you look at the Dublin talk page and Cork talk page you'll see that they have the same problem. As both Boothy (an old wiki war-horse) and Paul75- "It's an encyclopedia not a tourist guide". Afn 14:23, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

i haven't given too much info. so can i please leave it there , please,. i spent ages writing out the info.--Qwertyuiopasdfgh vfen 14:59, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

can u take pics from other websites as long as you say where you got them. Qwertyuiopasdfgh vfen 15:35, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Simple answer- NO. Afn 09:38, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

ok thank you--Qwertyuiopasdfgh vfen 11:28, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Regarding retail and nightlife comment above, that seems to have been taken from wikitravel from contribution i made. Hence, looking like travel guide. i think general comments re retail, nightlife etc, are more appropriate here, rather than naming outlets, etc.. after all, businesses come and go every week......Ciaranc 11:56, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] City of Letterkenny?

I know Letterkenny's population has grown over the last few years, and it has all the makings of a city, but I wasn't aware that it had actually received the official designation of "City" yet, as it says in the box at the bottom of the page. Can someone enlighten me?

Haven't had time to do much editing recently but this caught my attention. No, Letterkenny is not a city, it's not even a borough- see List of cities, boroughs and towns in the Republic of Ireland. Will delete this peice of vanity untill someone can fix it.Afn 10:12, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

That looks better, thanks for that.Mickeyjoe 20:02, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ancient Architechture?

Come on guys, there is nothing ancient about Letterkenny. 1843 is the oldest building cited that's only a 164 years old, falls well within the modern age. If you were putting An Grianan or Doe Castle then maybe, but then...there not part of the Modern sprawl that is LK. Brendandh 01:36, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Railways - - ya de ya de ya de

I've removed the Closed railway station thing, as i've put a whole infrastructure system in place for Ireland's (the geogrpahic island) rail system. In it's place, i'll put 2 articles, one for Letterkennyy and one for Letterkenny Junction stations. On the railway station articles tthe Category Category:Disused railway stations in County Donegal will take place of the category i've just removed. aNY queries i'd be happy to discuss.

I'm also looking for people to help start up a WikiProject for Ireland#s railways Halowithhorns89 (talk) 17:00, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Letterkenny isn't a lot of things

"Despite its size, Letterkenny is not the County Town (administrative centre) of County Donegal." There must be a less argumentative way of making this point? Reads funny. Sarah777 (talk) 11:54, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

It's encyclopedic to me. Reads good. States Truth --Balloholic (talk) 12:45, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

It implies that someone is making a counter-argument? Is someone? Who? Sarah777 (talk) 12:50, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Are they? What? Who are you and why are you here? And what is the truth? Do you know anything? Or am I just weird on this whole idea? What do you mean? You have a lot of questions to answer. --86.40.219.41 (talk) 17:30, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mid importance?

Category:Mid-importance Ireland articles??? Letterkenny is the one location Chuck Berry where performed when he came to Ireland!!! That category is absurd!!! Is someone suggesting that Chuck Berry is irrelevant and unimportant? Or even of "mid-importance"? Chuck Berry would not set a toe in somewhere supposedly "mid-important"!!! --86.40.219.41 (talk) 17:37, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

That there is an insult to the likes of John Lennon!!! [1] He'd be rolling around in his grave if he heard such shiite! --86.40.219.41 (talk) 17:41, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
