The Western Wall, which was a part of the Holy Temple, served all religions. When King Solomon built the Temple, he asked God to heed all the prayers of those who come to the Temple (Kings I 8:41-43). The prophets refer to the Temple as a "House for all nations" (Isaiah 56.7). The Temple was the universal center of spirituality, a concentrated point where God-consciousness filtered down into the world.
[edit] Ancient Custom
For centuries, people from all over the world have made pilgrimages to the sacred Wall to place a note filled with prayers and wishes in between the sacred stones. The divine presence is believed to be greater at the Western Wall than any other place in the world and it is believed the mighty God will fulfill these requests.
