Let Me Die In My Footsteps
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Let Me Die In My Footsteps" is a song written and recorded by Bob Dylan. It was originally recorded for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, but was dropped and later released on The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961-1991.
The song is based on an old ballad written by Roy Acuff and Dylan states (Chronicles, volume 1) that it was inspired on the obsession (during the 1950s) of constructing shelters against radioactive dust, a common thought in Minnesota in the times of the Cold War.
