[edit] Synopsis
After leaving Hollyoaks, Ben and Lisa move to the big city to lead a new life, where they are forced to communicate on a whole new level. Along the way they make friends with all kinds of people which include a brother and sister called Ally and Alex Harrison. Ally is the first character we meet in the main show, Hollyoaks when her and Lisa both try and buy the last pair of hair straighteners in a shop. A friendship is soon formed and Lisa sees there is more to life than the current humdrum student life she is living in Hollyoaks village. She soon convinces boyfriend Ben that the best thing for them to do is to make a fresh break from the village and join Ally and friends, this desire to break free was fueled by the opposition Ben and Lisa were facing over their relationship. Despite protestations from Lisa's family they headed off, and ended up living in a flat belonging to Alex and Ally. Eventually the pair secured jobs working for a limo hire company and it seemed they were happy and life was good.
Alas, the course of true love never did run smooth and soon Ben and Lisa were faced with a variety of problems and cracks began to show in their relationship. Lisa began to resent Ben's son Arthur (from his brief liaison with Emma Chambers (Hollyoaks). Ben wanted full custody of Arthur and for a while Lisa played along pretending she was happy with this until finally in a heated argument she told Ben she wasn't ready to be a mother and certainly didn't want to play 'mother' to his "mistake" meaning Arthur. Ben walked out leaving Lisa alone. He spent the day with Arthur and realised that he was being unfair asking Lisa to become a parent and decided to withdraw his application for sole custody.
At the same time all of this was going on Lisa was becoming more and more convinced that Ben was going to leave her in favour of their new friend Ally. This paranoia was increased when Ally admitted she was attracted to Ben and they had kissed, but he had pushed her away out of loyalty to Lisa. This was enough to push Lisa over the edge, coupled with the guilt she was feeling after sleeping with Nathan Blake just days before. At the end of her tether Lisa ended up cutting herself in a revisit to the self harm storyline which had featured some years earlier in the main show Hollyoaks. She was discovered by Ben and Ally where Ben explained to Ally about Lisa's self harm history. Lisa decided the best thing was for her and Ben to split up and to join parents, Les and Sally in Cyprus where they had recently moved to. As she was waiting at the bus stop after being discharged from hospital Ben caught up with her and said he wanted them to stay together and revealed he had put a deposit down on a flat for them. Lisa agreed to give their relationship another go.
