My interest in buttons results from my ancestors being button makers in Birmingham, England. My great great grandfather was Samuel Hammond Turner, his father was John Turner and their company was Hammond Turner etc. The etc is important because the earliest name was '& Dickenson', then came '& Sons' and, during the mid-1800s, it was '& Bates'. I am not an expert on the history of button making in general nor in Birmingham in particular but I now know a lot about my ancestors lives and button-making activities - as that information was missing from Wikipedia, I thought I'd add it! I am middle aged and boring - hence my interest in buttons and genealogy...
