[edit] The bass guitar on the picture of Les at the top of this article
I think the caption for the picture should say "Les Claypool at Bonnaroo playing a " and have the model/make of the guitar. There are so many guitars in his equipment list, which one is it?
edit: Just did some research and it's a Carl Thompson. I'm editing the article as such. 72.143.166.161 18:28, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Weasel Guy begs to differ
The Chronology on this article is wrong. I first saw Primus at Barrington Hall in 1987. The infamous "Acid Punch Wine Dinner" was on September 25, 1987. Les, Todd and Jay played as Primus. They already had songs like "Tommy the Cat," "Pudding Time," and "Sgt. Baker" down at that point. I was a major attraction that evening because I flipped out(too much punch) and put a ferret in my trousers. (Thank god that boy's not alone!)User: Robbygrine A/K/A Skullhammer A/K/A The Weasel Guy, which is what Les called me when I auditioned for the band around the time that Tim joined.
Any relation between Primus's Les Claypool and the Les Claypool who's done sound work for several anime productions? --FOo
Quite possible, but I have no idea. A trip to All Movie Guide shows him as sound editor for Armitage III. --Damaged Again
- I'd be very wary of AMG - there are several errors there, including a number of different people being listed as one. IMDB are more reliable, I think, and they seem to think that Primus' Les and the other Les are different people; compare [1], [2] and [3]. --Camembert
I have this recollection of seeing Primus_(band) opening for Rush at the Wembley Arena some time in the early 1990s. Anyone able to help with this partial amnesia? Phil 13:13, Dec 4, 2003 (UTC)
[edit] gabby la la opinions
i'm curious about this "alienated many of his fans" (or "career blunder" and such in history) thing re gabby la la. i admit i havent listened to gabby la la but how does it go so far as "alienating" fans?
A lot of his fans believe that Les and Gabby are having an affair, despite Les' 10 year marriage and children. Gabby is engaged to her tour manager however, and I don't believe there was anything romantic between them. Blatantly sexual, possibly, but not romantic.
[edit] This Was Vandalism, But It Was Pretty Fricken Funny You Must Admit
Les Claypool enjoys Nachos, I know this as I seen him eat some once. Les Claypool also enjoys pizza, to prove this, Les Claypool even wrote the Primus song "Southbound Pachyderm" about pizza. Les Claypool is know to spend days locked in his closet listening to spoken-word cd's by Drew Carey. Les also has no hearing in his left ear, the loss was due to a scuba diving accident, in which his ear was bitten off by a shark. Les does a lot of coke, but not as much as Ler.
After Les' cocaine addiction came to a cataclysmic peak in 2004 during a live show in Narnia, during a performance with a lion where Les and the lion argued fervently about who was entitled to the last rip of crizzle (a form of smokable cocaine and Meunster cheese), Les was urged to take his newly formed band, Les Claypool does Cocaine, on a nationwide tour of high school gymnasiums with Drew Carey*, his former cocaine dealer and one-time comedian. During this tour entitled, 'Les Goes Back To School', at the gymnasium of Columbine High, a school in Littleton, CO, his performance caused two students, Dylan Harris and Eric Klebold, to go on an unprovoked, hours-long horrific rampage. It was later determined that this rampage was, in Eric's final words, the result of Les Claypool's refusal to play a cover of Marilyn Manson's cover of 'Sweet Dreams', an 80s hit by the band Eurythmics, a two-member team consisting of some lady with orange hair and her dorky boyfriend. It is because of this that Les Claypool, the Eurythmics, Drew Carey, Aslan the Lion and Marilyn Manson are forbidden by the Littleton, CO Chamber of Commerce to ever perform 'Sweet Dreams' within a 15-mile radius of Littleton, CO or face consequences including but not limited to exhile on main street, a bus ride to Brooklyn without sleep and a 5-year, strict, non-dairy diet.
- note: This is not the same Drew Carey from the venerable 90s semi-popular sit-com that is now in sydication on many low-budget TV channels in second-tier markets around the US and various Latin countries south of the equator.
Also note that Les Claypool never had a drug habit. The reference to cocaine was included in this biography as a lame attempt at humor during a crack-fueled bout of hysteria by a bored web designer in Catalan and is completely fictional. If you are Les Claypool, you are encouraged to take this entry with two grains of salt and an aspirin. Lie down and close your eyes and pretend that you are on a masted vessel, sailing on seas of cheese, stocked with pork soda and frizzle fries.
I'm putting this on Uncyclopedia- Protozoic Waste
[edit] Gear listing
I'm just a lurker around here, but someone seriously needs to edit the list of equipment that Claypool uses and explain it more. What is an "anti-matter bass"? Someone needs to explain what a Whamola is for those not in the know on the page.
[edit] Discography
What do you guys think would be better, the current layout (emphasis on the bands) or a mixed chronological layout (i.e. Holy Mackerel between Punchbowl & Brown Album)? I personally think the latter would be better. Any thoughts? MightyMoose22 >Abort, Retry, Fail?_ 01:55, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- We had a similar(albeit opposite) question come up previously with the Steve Morse article. At that time the complaint was that it was chronological and not divided between the many acts he's performed with. I did a fast re-org on it and concensus seem to be positive. I realize your proposing the opposite situation. I guess if the "final product" maintains clarity then I can't see anyone having a problem with it. Maybe post it in here first and see if it draws a comment. I expect whatever you come up with would be OK. It's quite a task...Les is a busy man! Cheers! Anger22 02:14, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick reply, I was expecting anything for... a while, at least.
- With Steve Morse, I agree it makes sense to keep his seperate, as they are all rather prolific and run parrallel to each other, whereas with Les they're all just one-shot side-projects (with the exception of Live Frogs) that can easily be squeezed in between each other.
- Anyway, yeah, I'll test it first and either post it here or in my sandbox or something. I look forward to some feedback! MightyMoose22 >Abort, Retry, Fail?_ 07:45, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sources?
In Metallica's Behind the Music, Claypool said that during the audition he wanted the others to "jam on some Isley Brothers tunes", after Lars Ulrich asked whether he's "not really used to playing this kind of music". James Hetfield remarked that Claypool didn't win the job because "he was too good."
I personally heard he was deemed "too funky."
However, what I heard, along with the above passage from the article and the rest of the article itself, doesn't matter until someone noteworthy wrote it somewhere. .Absolution. 22:21, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I've failed this article's GA nomination because just about the entire article is unreferenced. 17Drew 23:47, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

- This whole article is seriously lacking references. I think it should be tagged. Thoughts? Vans74 14:25, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Suicidal Tendencies
I had a copy of ST's 2nd album, "Join The Army" a few years ago and it was produced by 'Lester Claypool.'
Same guy? What are the chances of two 'Les' Claypool's both living in California and working in music? Vans74 14:25, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Les is going on tour again soon. Somebody has got to get a decent image for this article. No offense to Mr Weir, but wiki's representation of Claypool's career needs a one better. - Steve3849 talk 02:48, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
