[edit] Leslie of Glaslough in the County of Monaghan (21 February 1876)
The Leslie Baronetcy, of Glaslough in the County of Monaghan, is a Baronetcy created in the Baronetcy of the United Kingdom. It was created 21 February 1876 for John Leslie.
- Sir John Leslie, 2nd Baronet(7 August 1857–25 January 1944). Leslie was the only son of five children born to Sir John Leslie, 1st Baronet, and Lady Constance Wilhelmina Frances Dawson-Damer. He was educated initially at a preparatory school and then at Eton. Leslie described his experience of Eton as 'gruesome, particularly the corporal punishment and the teasing of Irish pupils around St Patrick's Day. He subsequently attended Cambridge. Leslie was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards, with whom he served as a lieutenant at the Battle of Tel el Kebir in 1882, distinguishing himself under fire. The Leslies were opposed to the Home Rule movement. Leslie led the Monaghan Militia in the 1890s and he allowed the Ulster Volunteer Force drill at the demesne in 1914. The Leslie family were one of the largest land-owning families in the late 19th century. Their holdings comprised 70,000 acres (280 km²) in counties Cavan, Donegal, Down, Fermanagh, Meath and Tyrone[1]. They travelled to London quite frequently with a retinue of nurses, butlers and other staff. The family were educated at home. On 2 October 1884, in New York, with the active disapproval of both families, Leslie married Leonie Blanche Jerome, daughter of Leonard Jerome and Clarissa Hall. Leonie's sister was Jennie, wife of Sir Randolph Churchill and mother of Winston Churchill. Leslie and his wife had four sons: Sir John Randolph Shane Leslie, 3rd Baronet; Captain Norman Jerome Beauchamp Leslie (1886-1914); Seymour William Leslie (1889-1979); Lionel Alistair David Leslie (1900-1987).
- Sir John Leslie, 4th Baronet (b. 6 December 1916). Leslie is the eldest son of the late Sir John Randolph Shane Leslie, 3rd Baronet, and Marjorie Ide. He became the fourth baronet when his father died in 1971. Leslie was educated at Downside School and Magdalene College, Cambridge. He has never married or had children. Leslie has an elder sister, Anita Theodosia Moira Rodzianko King, and a younger brother, Desmond Arthur Peter Leslie. It is likely that one of Desmond Leslie's sons or grandsons will inherit the baronetcy in due course.
