[edit] Plot
Kanzaki Shizuku (神咲雫), is the son of a recently deceased, world renowned wine critic Kanzaki Yutaka (神咲豐多香) who owns a vast wine collection. In order to take ownership of his legacy, he must find 13 wines, known as the "12 apostles" and the "Les Gouttes de Dieu" that his father described in his will. He has a competitor called Toomine Itsusei (遠峰一青), a renowned young wine critic, who is his father's adopted son.
Shizuku has never dranked or has any previous knowledge about wines, but with strong senses of taste and smell, plus knowledge gained from his time with his father, and with support from his friends and colleagues like sommelier trainee Shinohara Miyabi (紫野原雅), Shizuku submerged himself in the world of wines and try to solve the mysteries of the 13 wines and defeats Toomine Itsusei.
[edit] Impact
The sale of fine wines in Korea has gone up as a result of the popularity of the comic[1].
Just two days after the issue with a particular comment about Chateau Mont-Perat came out, a Taiwanese importer sold 50 cases of Chateau Mont Perat. [2]
Sales of Umberto Cosmo's Colli di Conegliano Rosso also leapt 30% after being mentioned in the Manga series. [3]
Wine industry experts believe part of the manga’s appeal is that it teaches readers enough about wine to understand the drink and impress their friends, but does so in an entertaining way.[4]
[edit] Note
All the wines mentioned in the comic are genuine.
The comic is also published in Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. From April 2008, it is also published in France.
