Leroy S. Johnson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leroy S. Johnson (June 12, 1888 – November 25, 1986) was the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS Church), a religious group that practices plural marriage and was based in Colorado City, Arizona.
While Johnson is today recognized as a prophet of the FLDS Church, he only elusively made reference to his prophetic status. For example, he said, "You have heard other men call me a prophet, but you have never heard me make the claim."[1]
While acting as the prophet, Johnson dismissed J. Marion Hammon and Alma Adelbert Timpson from the Council of Friends.[2] The United Latter-day Church of Jesus Christ split from the FLDS Church during his leadership.
Following Johnson's death, Rulon Jeffs succeeded him as the leader of the FLDS Church.
