[edit] Tinapa City Resort

Hi Lephilippe and thanks for your message. Wikipedia cannot accept material cut-and-pasted from other websites. See WP:COPYRIGHT for more information. Just because they want their resort advertising does not mean that they want to release all text under the GFDL licence that allows the text to be freely distributed and edited.

Also, Wikipedia is operated by the not-for-profit Wikimedia Foundation and funded by donations. Advertising is therefore unwelcome. An article that merely advertises something, as Tinapa City Resort did, will be deleted immediately as spam. Articles need to provide reliable third-party sources and assert notability for their subject. Advertising (and reprinting press releases) doesn't do that.   REDVERSSЯEVDEЯ  07:57, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New article proposal

Hi Lephilippe

You need to read Wikipedia:Request for copyright assistance for guidance on asking a source to release their information under the GFDL before you post that information.

But, for guidance, if something is "proposed" or lacks any sources because it is new, then Wikipedia isn't interested. We're an encyclopedia so we don't want new or proposed things; we want established things that others have written about already and can thus be written about dispassionately from multiple secondary sources without it appearing to be advertising on a site that is co-ordinated by a not-for-profit charitable foundation.

In short: no, the article you propose cannot be cut-and-pasted and, if it was, would need to be deleted anyway. Thanks and happy editing.   REDVERSSЯEVDEЯ  20:35, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RobotBoy

A tag has been placed on RobotBoy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. [edit] Upchuck alien

Do not remove speedy tags, as you did with Upchuck alien. If you feel the tag is inappropriate the means to argue it are noted in the tag. Continued removal of tags is considered vandalism and may result in being blocked from wikipedia. Improbcat 18:01, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Commercial use of Image:Abuja at night1.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Abuja at night1.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Abuja at night1.jpg is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Abuja at night1.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 15:05, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Abuja_CBD.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Abuja_CBD.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:29, 1 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 15:29, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:Abuja Nigeria CBD.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:AbujaCBD.jpg. The copy called Image:AbujaCBD.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 15:45, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Flag of Lagos State

Hi there. Concerning your flag of Lagos State, it shouldn't appear in the Lagos infobox, which is a city infobox, not a state infobox. Same as the NYC infobox which does not display the flag of NY State. What you could (and should) do, however, is putting your flag in the Lagos State infobox. You'll find that infobox in the Lagos State article. Cheers. Godefroy 16:47, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lagos city/State

Lagos State is not a city. There are large parts of Lagos State that are outside of the Metropolitan Lagos, such as for instance Epe which is a rural area far away from the city. Godefroy 13:50, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

More than 70%? That's not what I can see on this map: [1]. In fact only a small part of the state is covered by Metropolitan Lagos (blue and yellow color). Godefroy 13:57, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Sheraton Abuja.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Sheraton Abuja.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sherool (talk) 16:25, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I'm afraid it doesn't seem quite right yet. Legaly speaking public domain have a very spesific meaning, and just because an image is part of some campaign doesn't mean there is no copyright on it. Unless there is an explicit statemnt by the copyright holder stating that the image can be used freely we have to asume it's fully copyrighted. Also seeing as this is a photo of a building it can also most likely not be used at all unless it's proven to be free licensed (since Wikipedia:Non-free content says such images can only be used if it's not possible to reproduce them under a free license). So I would suggest contacting the owners of that site and requesting a formal release of the image under a free license (see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for details), or just have it deleted and wait for someone in the area take theyr own photo of the buiding and upload it under a suitable free license. --Sherool (talk) 18:45, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
A simmilar case seems to be Image:CenBank Abuja.gif, if you have uploaded other images with simmilar situations please review those too. --Sherool (talk) 18:46, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
No, I'm afraid vague statements like that is not sufficient to asume something to be licensed under the GFDL (or any other spesific license). It needs to explicitly say "this is licensed under the XXX license" (or simmilar). If might be worth sending them an e-mail asing if they are willing to release it under a free license though. --Sherool (talk) 19:20, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi, no I'm afraid press releases and promotional images can not be considered free content. They may allow anyone to display the image free of charge, but in order to be considered a free license the right to modify and use the image for commercial purposes must also be granted, and this is far from the norm. See also Wikipedia:Copyright#Using copyrighted work from others. --Sherool (talk) 21:57, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, well yeah I guess that could make a difference, asuming that tag is accurae (I notice there is a big "disputed" banner across it), looking at the relevant section of Nigerian copyright law it seems to me it only allow non-commercial use of "works of public interest" (sort of a "fair use" equivelent) though, wich would not be equivelent to public domain. I'm no expert on Nigerian copyright law though, tell you what: just use that tag for now. I'll run the license tag by someone some (hopefully) knowledgable people, and if the law support what it's saying it's all good. --Sherool (talk) 15:18, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Tinapa_Logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Tinapa_Logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Qst 15:02, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Tinapa Resort

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Tinapa Resort, by Kww (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Tinapa Resort seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Tinapa Resort, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Tinapa Resort itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 16:10, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Tinapa Logo.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Tinapa Logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sancho 18:53, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Specifically, I think the image is of an unnecessarily high resolution. If this image does get deleted, you could upload an image with much reduced resolution... something like 200 -400 pixels wide should be enough I think. Sancho 18:54, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Please do not remove the template at the image description page without addressing the concern. You can discuss this on the talk page of the image. Sancho 23:49, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
