LEPretrieval
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lower Elements Police retrieval team, better known as LEPretrieval is a part of the Lower Elements Police in the Artemis Fowl series of children's books by Irish author Eoin Colfer.
Retrieval's most elite unit is LEPretrieval One, led by decorated fairy, Major Trouble Kelp, who appeared in book one as a Captain. It was also mentioned that LEPRetrieval 's "number one" is Captain Vein. It is said that every young fairy's dream is to join LEPretrieval One and don the stealth black jumpsuit. Highly trained as they were, the fairies were easily "removed" by Butler on their first encounter. Retrieval has made many appearances throughout the series. Their job is to use information from LEPrecon, perform mind wipes to humans who may have seen a fairy, retrieve rogue fairies, retrieve/destroy trolls who have made their way to the surface and other various tasks.
[edit] Characters
Listed below are some of the main characters in the Artemis Fowl series who are members of LEPretrieval.
Corporal Grub Kelp is the younger brother of Trouble Kelp. He is appears to be terrified of almost everything and takes offence easily. He often threatens to tell their Mummy about the menial aspects of Trouble that bother him. He is notorious for wanting his mother, and claims to have single-handedly defeated Butler, the most dangerous human the fairies have ever been in contact with. According to Holly, Grub's war story is actually just the story of Butler throwing him back as a fisherman would a minnow. Grub would like nothing better than to have a desk job for the rest of his life.
Captain/Major Trouble Kelp is one of the best in the LEP. He is famous for choosing his first name as "Trouble" at his graduation. In Artemis Fowl books 1-3, Kelp is a Captain, but by book 4 he has been promoted to a Major.
Lieutenant Briar Cudgeon was a former friend turned arch-enemy of Julius Root. He tried to make himself look good in order to become part of the fairy Council, a very prestigious and powerful political group which pretty much runs the Lower Elements. He assumed the rank of Commander during the Artemis Fowl crisis (Book One), only to have it usurped by Root when his plans were unsuccessful. He is at the root of the majority of the events of The Arctic Incident, along with his partner in crime, Opal Koboi. Cudgeon dies at the end of the Arctic Incident after being fatally burned by plasma.
