Talk:Leora Auslander
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Auslander holds a significant chair in French History at the University fo Chicago, and it is critical to understand her own biography in order to assess her work. Dandy Cephalopod 00:11, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Dandy Cephalopod
- Uncited quotes are unacceptable and the quotes themselves are unencyclopedic. --RandomHumanoid(⇒) 00:13, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Autobiography?
This article, particularly in its early incarnations with lengthy quotes from its subject and great biographical detail, gives the impression that it is autobiographical. Can the author confirm or deny this? In the case the author is not Leora Auslander, can he/she provide the source(s) for these quotes? Autobiographies are highly frowned upon here, viz. Wikipedia:Autobiography --RandomHumanoid(⇒) 04:27, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
I assure you I am not Leora Auslander. This is not autobiography. Dandy Cephalopod 14:12, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Dandy Cephalopod
- Okay, but you do seem to have greater knowledge of this person than is publicly available. I'll remind you of WP:NPOV and wish you happy editing. --RandomHumanoid(⇒) 14:38, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. The information was gleaned from her website, publicly available web pages relating to her career, her CV, and her book. I have included nothing that is not public. I am especially interested in academics who work in the areas of gender and sexuality. Dandy Cephalopod 18:27, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Dandy Cephalopod
[edit] POV tag
This concerns POV tag cleanup. Whenever an POV tag is placed, it is necessary to also post a message in the discussion section stating clearly why it is thought the article does not comply with POV guidelines, and suggestions for how to improve it. This permits discussion and consensus among editors. From WP tag policy: Drive-by tagging is strongly discouraged. The editor who adds the tag must address the issues on the talk page, pointing to specific issues that are actionable within the content policies, namely Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Simply being of the opinion that a page is not neutral is not sufficient to justify the addition of the tag. Tags should be added as a last resort. Better yet, edit the topic yourself with the improvements. This statement is not a judgement of content, it is only a cleanup of frivolously and/or arbitrarily placed tags. No discussion, no tag.
