Weinglass has often acted as defense attorney for those involved in left-wing politics.

With William Kunstler, he represented Kathy Boudin. He was a partner in the same firm as Leonard Boudin, Kathy Boudin's father, and William Kunstler. Kunstler and Weinglass represented the Chicago 7 in their 1968 trial. He has also represented Angela Davis and Ron Kaufman, Jane Fonda, Bill and Emily Harris (kidnappers of Patty Hearst), Jimi Simmons, Skyhorse and Mohawk and Mumia Abu-Jamal. He is currently an appellate attorney for the Cuban Five[1].

Leonard Weinglass traveled to Cuba[citation needed] (1968) and to Hanoi (1972)[citation needed]. Weinglass has worked with former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark.

Although now 74, Weinglass still takes cases. He sees no reason to stop - "the typical call I get is the one that starts by saying 'You are the fifth attorney we've called'. Then I get interested" [1].
