Leonard F. Wing Jr., was a United States Army Major General and Commander of the 43rd Infantry Division (United States) during World War II. He was also the only National Guard officer to command an active duty division in World War II.[1]

MG Wing was educated at Norwich University, the Military College of Vermont, and in 1985 was presented with the Distinguished Alumnus Award for his military service [1].

General Wing was a well known Republican political figure in Vermont and would likely have been elected governor in 1946 if a heart attack hadn’t cut his life short.[2]
