Leoben is a city in Styria, in central Austria, located on the Mur river. With a population of about 25,000, Leoben is a local industrial center and hosts the University of Leoben which specialises in mining.
The armistice preliminary to the Treaty of Campo Formio, the Peace of Leoben, was signed here in 1797.
The most famous "son of Leoben" is Austrian and international football trainer, Walter Schachner ("Schoko") Another "famous son" is the actor Martin Weinek (aka Inspector Fritz Kunz on Inspector Rex)
The most famous "beer of Leoben" is Gösser.
