Lenape High School is a four-year regional public high school located in Medford Township in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. It is the oldest of the four high schools that comprise the Lenape Regional High School District, which serves students from Evesham Township, Medford Lakes, Medford Township, Mount Laurel Township, Shamong Township, Southampton Township, Tabernacle Township and Woodland Township.[2] Lenape High School serves students from Mount Laurel Township.[3]

Students are split between two school buildings, with Grades 9 and 10 in the North Building and Grades 11 and 12 in the South Building.[4]

In 1955, the regional district was formed. In 1957, land was acquired for Lenape High School, whose doors opened in 1958. Starting with 548 students in freshman and sophomore classes, the school grew quickly and now consists of two buildings, Lenape High School North and Lenape High School South. Lenape draws its student body from Mount Laurel Township.[5]

As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,959 students and 158.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 12.4.[1]

Lenape High School participates in the Olympic Conference, which consists of public and private high schools in Burlington County and Camden County.

Lenape High School also has a separate club ultimate and ice hockey teams. The ice hockey team is member of the South Jersey High School Ice Hockey League.

The 2004 boys basketball won the NJSIAA South, Group IV championship, defeating Atlantic City High School 66-51.[6] The team moved on to win the 2004 Group IV State Championship with a win over Plainfield High School.[7]

The girls soccer team won the South, Group IV title in 2004 with a 3-1 win over Washington Township High School.[8] In 2007, the team won the South, Group IV state sectional championship with a 3-2 win over Toms River High School North in the tournament final.[9][10] The team moved on to win the 2007 Group IV state championship with a 3-0 win over Bridgewater-Raritan High School.[11][12]

Lenape won the 2003 Central, Group IV sectional championship in field hockey, edging Cherokee High School 2-1 in the tournament final.[13]

The girls lacrosse team won the 2007 Group IV State Championship with an 11-7 win vs.Montclair High School.[14]

Also, Coach Tony Guerrara led the girls' soccer team to the State Championship during the 2007-08 season.

[edit] Extracurricular activities

The Lenape High School marching band has won championships for the past two years. In 2004, they were United States Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) group 2A All-States champions, and in 2005 they were Cavalcade of Bands American A Champions. In 2006, they placed third in the state in group 2A at USSBA state championships and third with best color guard at USSBA all-states championships. They also qualified as an open band in Cavalcade of bands. Their 2006 season show was "Down on the Farm" which entertained audiences at every competition. They also perform at local parades and host a competition every year. Their 2007 show was "The Four Season" featuring songs Let it Snow, Frosty the Snowman, Turn Turn Turn, Singing in the Rain, Blue Skies, Here Comes the Sun, Summertime, California Dreamin' and Autumn Leaves. They recently went undefeated in the USSBA circuit, with a 92.0 championship winning performance.

The Lenape marching band also had previously won Class I Championships in 1993 and 1994 and Class II Championships in 1996 and 1997 as part of the Eastern Marching Band Association.

Lenape High school has also been known for an excellent model congress team. Princeton Model Congress is a four day conference with over 50 schools from around the country. They have placed first at Princeton Model Congress 4 of the past 6 years. They brought home the James Madison Award in the most recent 2006 Princeton Model Congress.[15]
