Lemote (Chinese: 龙梦; pinyin: lóng mèng; literally "Dragon Dream") is a low-cost computer being developed as a joint venture between the Jiangsu Menglan Group and the Chinese Institute of Computing Technology.

The Lemote computer is a joint venture between the Jiangsu Menglan Group and China's [www.ict.ac.cn Institute of Computing Technology] (ICT). The Institute of Computing Technology is participating in the project under the auspices of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The new computer was announced by Zhang Fuxin, an ICT engineer. According to Zhang Fuxin, the purpose of this project is to provide everyone with a personal computer.[1] The project plans to sell 100,000 low-cost computers in 2006. The Lemote is intended for low income groups as well as rural area students.[2]

Lemote ships with Debian Linux on hda1 and Rays Linux on hda4 as its operating systems. But any linux distribution which has a mipsel port can be installed, e.g. Gentoo Linux.

The Lemote is being designed to cost 1,015 Chinese yuan, 100 Euro, 131 United States dollars.

[edit] Latest Fuloong 2f model

Lemote is announcing its latest Fuloong 2f computer, which will be available in market on 30 June 2008, instead of previously announced date 15 April. The delay is due to technical reasons.[4] It's priced at 1800Chinese yuan(257 United States dollars, 163 Euro).
