Leisurama

Leisurama is a development of vacation homes in Montauk, New York that was constructed between 1963 and 1965 following the developer's success with a model home at the 1959 American Exhibition in Moscow. This model home was the venue of the famous Kitchen Debate between Nikita Khrushchev and Richard Nixon.
Herbert Sadkin, the president All-State Properties, returned from Moscow to develop the Lauderhill community in Florida. Two years later he started the Leisurama project, building vaction homes which sold for between $12,995 and $17,995. Macy's at Herald Square marketed the homes with an exhibit on its 9th floor. Raymond Loewy/William Snaith, Inc. was contracted to design the homes. The project fell to Loewy vice president and well-known architect Andrew Geller.
The houses came fully furnished with General Electric appliances, and other fixtures including plates, towels, even toothbrushes.
The housing project is the topic of a documentary titled "Leisurama" in PBS broadcast distribution through American Public Television.
