[edit] History

The original station was built in Leigh Old Town, but a newer, larger, three platform station was built in 1936 to replace it some distance to the west. The original station building was then used by a local Sea Scout troop, until the northern platform buildings were demolished for the widening of the adjacent road. The other platform and station building still exist and are used by Leigh Sailing Club. [1]

When the London Underground's District Line operated a non-stop service from Barking to the Southend area, Leigh-on-Sea was the first station to be called at after Barking. [2]

[edit] Ticket office

The ticket office is open Monday - Friday 05.15 - 22.00, Saturday and Sunday 06.15 - 20.00. It has two serving windows and uses the TRIBUTE issuing system.

The ticket hall also houses an Avantix Self Service Ticket Machine and a Fast Ticket self-service machine.
